Leupold Mark 4 scopes

Recommended Posts

What is the optical quality in the Mark 4? Is it like the VX 3's? Just by looking at the price I would think it is as good or better. Anybody here have one of these or an upper end Leupold like the VX-3or the VX-7?

I have all 3 of the scopes you have listed, all with 30mm tubes and similar magnification. The V7 is definately a little more clear but I don't care for the knob set-up. I'm scope poor right now but if I were going to buy another it would be the vx-3 with the target elevation knob added. Shayne

Sorry I just remembered there is one caveat to my post. I do not give it much weight but the vx-7 has a 50mm obgective and the others have 40"s. But it does look more clear when we are shooting rocks at 500 yards. Shayne

Right now I'm looking at the Mark 4 because it already has the M1 turrets. But I like the idea of having the scope sit low with the vx-3L models. I can get the turrets added later.

I like the Mark 4 but it seems that every scope is some sort of compromise. I like the fact that it comes with the knobs but I like the varmit hunter reticle. So for me it's a better value to order the VX-3 with the reticle I want and have the knob added. I realize thats overkill on the options but I like to be able to do anything I want with the scope. Anyone else have a Leupold they would like to tell about? Are the turrets easy to use? What range do you sight in for 1st?

I have a 4.5x14 VXL that I really like. I ordered a custom turret from kenton industies that is designed to fit any leupold scope. they are around $110.00 they claim that it will be a ballistic match for my .270 WSM out to 800 yards or so. I have not tested this out yet to tell one way or the other. The turret that I ordered is for a 200 yard zero, however you can specify what you want.

leupold does the same thing but you have to send them your scope. probably better with leupold because there won't be any kind of warranty issue if something happens.
