youngbuck Report post Posted December 18, 2009 got in a hurry to load up some 300RUM tonight and didnt even think to clean my resizing die untill it was too late. the base holder pulled the rim off. I was gonna try and pull the primer pin to puch the case out but it wont come out all the way because the neck sizing ball. i tried puting a screw through the primer hole and pulling it out but its stuck good. GameHauler Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Made my own case puller from a idea on another site and looking at new ones and sure as heck I had to use it Pretty primitive but did the job just fine. Not looking to get a patent on it but what the hey I'll look for the link but the die manufacturer will also fix it for you. Give Casey's idea a try first. I have heard of pulling the deprimer pin as far up as posable and cut it this could allow it drop back into the case and out of the way to tap it out. Never tried it, just what I heard and deprimer pins are pretty cheap. Oh, maybe not, you will need a new expander shaft. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
WinMag Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I'm not sure how to describe it to you but I had that happen before and got it out with a home made device. I took a sleve that fit over the Die but not over the jam nut welded the other end closed and drilled a small hole in it. From here I threaded the hole and ran a screw threw the hole and tight into the primer pocket (Drilled and threaded also). Then I used the Jam nut on the die to press the cartridge out of the die. When I turned the Jam nut against the sleeve it worked like a press to move the sleeve that was bolted to the cartridge. I have also seen it done almost the same way but......Instead of threading the hole in the sleeve just over size it and drill and thread the hole in the cartridge. As the bolt tightens against the sleeve into the cartridge it will pull it out. Dont know if how I wrote it makes any sense but it worked for me. I still use the same die to this day. Good Luck. .270 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 rcbs makes a stuck case remover. if you're gonna reload, get one. good thing to get for xmas maybe. somebody else makes one that you have to drill out the base of the case and tap it and pull it that way. i don't like that kind. the rcbs has a little apparatus that pulls the nexk excpander through and then it has some hard steel rods that you drop down the neck and smack with a hammer. but really, if you're gonna reload, get a stuck case remover. Lark. Lark is right. If you reload, you eventually will have to remove a stuck case from a die. I have both types of pullers that he described, but I prefer to drill and tap the case. Pine Donkey Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I have been able to do it by unthreading the expander shaft and pulling out the expander ball as far as possible, until it lodges into the neck. Then unscrew the expander shaft from the expander ball. Next, using an awl, tap the expander ball loose and it will drop into the bottom of the casing. Then use your awl to drive the casing out of the die (be sure you are not crushing the expander ball). Lastly you will have to cut the casing open to get the expander ball. youngbuck Report post Posted December 21, 2009 well i got it out. I threaded the nut and bushing off the threaded rod for the neck ball. I put a bunch of washers on the rod. then i tightened the nut down on the washers. pulled the neck ball assembly out the top. Then i had to drive the case out. I bent steel rod, brass rod and everything else i tried. I took a #3 phillips extended bit and cut off the phillips end. used that for a punch. took a few real hefty swings w/ a 3.5lb hammer. It came out though. thnx for the ideas guys. i have a case remover in my cart for my next order. Any body havin issues w/ hornady one shot? seems like its gummin up real bad. switched back to the RCBS case lube Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
.270 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 it's a good idea to clean resize dies real good if you haven't used em for awhile. just about anything will get sticky after sitting around awhile. one thing i keep around all the time is wd-40. i usually always spray a little in the resizer before i start. it will clean up about anything and it it is real good smellin' aftershave and ain't bad on sawiches or corn flakes.
