We were bored one afternoon last year so we drove up the Mt. Lemon road blowing that thing at certain stops. Did about 3 set-ups and nothing, finally on the fouth one, pigs came out of the woodwork from everywhere. Buddy missed twice, caller about had the big boar run right over him, exciting to say the least, but I wouldn't hold my breath when making calling set-ups, I think we just lucked into them.

I've used the bear squler by quaker boy and its worked great for me. I found that calling wokrs the best after you have gotten in on them and they get all busted up.

IMO, once a sounder has been called in using a call, they wise up to it for a while. I've had pigs come barreling in before, some take off like pumba with a lion on its tail. If you can get onto a sounder that hasn't been called, I think your chances of having them come in are good, with a javelina call or even a rabbit distress call as well. Called them in with both. Just gotta find the right pigs.

Stalking in on them can be a huge rush too. When they're going to town rootin' around, a guy can get in EXTREMELY close. That's as much of a rush as blowin' a call IMO.

Good Luck

I think it's best used after you have already located pigs and are in close range to them and just need to get them closer. Last year I put a stalk on a herd and came in 60 yards too high. I grabbed my J-13 and had 3 in my lab in seconds. Just make sure you have an arrow knocked if you decide to use it that close.

I tried to use it once when they were 200 yards away and all it did was spook them. Then another time out varmint calling I had them cross a 400 yard canyon gap and came to within 20 yards.

You can never tell how they might act with it. And you don't need a J-13 anything that sounds like a dying piglet will do.

I got with in 10yards of one tearing up a catus. It was nerve racking in the best of ways.

I had 3 charge me when I was calling fox and bobcats using a cat nip. Almost pooped myself....

My first pig was shot using the J13. Brother and me called and it came charging in to 15 yrds if we were not on a 30' bank it would have been in our laps. It kept trying to climb the bank and I actually missed twice before hitting it and that is the only thing that stopped it from trying to climb the bank. Since that first pig all other pigs I have seen are running the other way, I think that call has become over used by hunters.

Calling javelina does work and the J-13 is a good call for it. I have called javelina in to my feet using that J-13 call and it's a rush.

+1

They work really well!! I sat one time and called a pig back to me several times everytime we have used it we've had success.

Calling on them is no fun in my opinion....getting right up to them is more fun. I have actually got out in front of them and had my eye on one and next thing I know one was 2 feet to my left needless to say I froze and he just grunted at me. I pulled back my bow and made the mistake of using my sites......I almost shot my foot. There is nothing like stalking up to them and getting them to chase you. I also have the call and have never used it never needed too.

the only time when we use it is when the herd spooks or busts. this has been 80/20 for us. if theres a sow with piglets she coming back to get them. if you call. we had a herd of 50 bust on us. we pulled out the call and got on top of a big rock/boulder. a sow with 4 or 5 others circled us for a few minutes. it was really neet to see. the best part, it was dec. 31. :o lucky pig!. but calling is calling you never know whats going to happen. all calls work. it just depends on the situations. my buddy has brought pigs back no calls just his mouth. he grunts just like'em and hes killed his last two like this. and good luck to you. hope you dont have to use it.
