Border Units Reviewed.

Recommended Posts

OK, Well there were many stories posted before the hunts about personal experiences in these Units that were troubling.

For those that hunted south this year. How was your experience? I've seen a lot of success stories which is awesome. I thought while our memories are still fresh we could elaborate on our recent experiences in these units.

Did these stories live up to what you encountered?

If so, How did it effect your hunt?

I've heard stories about the guy found with both knee caps shot and left for dead. Border crossers coming into camp stating they were robbed asking for help, etc.

My experience was pretty much what I expected. I spent the entire seven days in the field. And even though there were a few close encounters. We still had a great time. I guess the only thing that was a little concerning during the whole time was the fire fight with automatic weapons being exchanged. I guess it just brought things back to a realization. Oh yeah, I would pay big bucks to catch a ride with that BP whirly bird pilot. He gets up close and personal if you know what I mean.

Also I need to invest in redbull products.

Highlight was seeing a female mountain lion with her kits and tagging out on a buck.

I was scared for my life the whole time and didn't get any chance at all to enjoy the camp-life, the deer hunting and the comradrie of my fellow hunters in camp. Spent every night in cold sweats thinking of the brown boogy man that was just on the other side the mesquite bushes watching me. Had a white knuckled death grip on my side piece the entire time..

Scared of my own shadow down there, I tell ya..

Illegal alien activity tends to slow down in the cooler months... around the end of December and into January its gets very slow..

A lot of it has to do with the holidays (they like to go home for the holidays too surprisingly) and most of the migrant work they seek doesn't exist in the winter.

Also its too cold at night.. in the summer they can sleep during the day and travel at night. In the winter because they can't have fires at night its just too cold.

I think maybe the hunting season might even keep some of them away (more eyeballs with cellphones out in the desert).

The traffickers are still basically still doing their thing but the normal illegal alien "walker" stuff tends to slow down around this time of year LUCKILY for us.

I spent 5 days hunting down south and never felt uneasy. I spend quite a bit of time down there and have had many encounters with UDA's and smugglers. They seem to want to avoid me as much as I want to avoid them. With that being said, I believe it pays to be cautious and have the necessary phone #'s stored in your cell phone and to use extreme caution when contact is made.

What's the story with the automatic gun fire?

Spent quite a bit of time down there like usual. Nothing out of the ordinary, a few UDA's and that's about it. Went out one evening with a BP agent on his hunt and he got us busted by fellow agents by setting off sensors in a highly traveled UDA path.

I know quite a few guys with dual citizenship and even they are leery of crossing over down South right now, a lot of shootouts happening in Mexico right now. All you guys heading South of the border be safe.

we were down in fresnal wash our camp had some things taken, food, water, boots and they want thriugh our reloads to see if we had the caliber to fit their weapon, border patrol stopped by and thought it might have been spotters, anyways no harm luckily as we had 3 young kids in camp, but 3 hunters tagged bucks. For those not familiar with fresnal it was 36b.

Seem there have been more tales of entire camps being taken on the Kaibab than problems in camps along the border. Seems more hunters' F-250 trucks have been stolen from movie theatres in Phx than from the hunt spots.

Probably could leave the truck running and the illegals still wouldn't stoop low enough to steal a Ford, heck they probably realize if they steal a Ford they'll end up walking eventually ;).

AZbowhunter22, Not sure what was going on but the exchange lasted about 3-5 min. Definitely more then one person by the sound of things. Not the first time hearing it. BP was in there the next day. This was in unit 35.

Nosajpo, Yes it is. My original post wasn't clear. I did think it was rather late in the year to be seeing such young kits. They were not much bigger then my pit bull.

Probably preaching to the choir but it would seem as though if we ALL pulled together and approached our representatives as a large group of Americans we could possibly get something done about this border problem. It is an election year coming up next year so one would think they would have to listen to such a large group of tax paying people who are actually dealing with this problem every year in our own country? Speaking for myself I think i will be voting more along the lines of what will benifit me the most in my life as opposed to which congressman/woman is teh most likely to be the best. So if this fella who was involved directly with our Border Brothers organization (can't recall the true name?) is indeed running maybe we give him a shot since Mr. McCain has become more of a fence rider then ever? jsut a thought but I am not so foolish to think money also plays a key part in this and if teh funds are not allocated for protecting our citizens everywhere then it is up to us somehow to protect each other. Having served in central and south america I am less fearful then most but still not ignorant enough to let my guard down. God be with those of you trying to enjoy your freedom to hunt or camp with your families and friends down south and watch your six!

This immigration problem is ridiculous!!!! We have to worry about smugglers in the south and pot farms up north in the forest service area's. I would love to do something about this issue but it seem's like they have just as many right's as we do even though they are not citizens and more bleeding heart liberal's sticking up for them. This subject pisses me off and makes me sick!!!!

WE ALL MUST DO SOMETHING TO FIX THIS!

p.s. I read something that said by the year 2015 the U.S. population will be 37% illegal immigrants!! 37%!! That's almost half! Some law's and government we have.

Sorry for the rant

I spent 5 days in 36B and saw no one myself, but a couple guys from my camp saw 12 of em one day. Glad to say none of us had problems, but I was always alert and cautious. Really unfortunate that we have to think this way out there. I don't worry at all about the illegals (other than raiding camp I guess) just the smugglers.... Anyway, I think I need to invest in Red Bull also, and Tuna... Did have a great time as always, filled my tag, and so did my buddy!

I spent 5 days in 36B by fresno wash also and the only problem was that someone took a shot at my truck on the second day i was there. The border patrol went after them but did not catch these people. also here is my battery.
