(I think) I am probably jinxing myself but I will be bowhunting in 6a and have located a herd of pigs to hunt. Is there anyone in the Flagstaff area that would like Javelina meat? I love to hunt them but usually consider a successful hunt stalking to 15 yards and missing clean! Just can't eat these critters. Yes, I've had them every way imaginable, just not a fan and was lucky enough to harvest a coues deer and a cow elk, so the freezers full. Any takers if I happen to arrow one? Thanks! That's what I've herd, but untill I try someones that doesn't make me ralph, I'm not killing another one just to kill one. In my book they aren't even fit for dog food, ( un-edible) as my pooches will tell you.. Maybe someone will turn it into the "delicasey"<spell check lol> I've herd about some day and let me try it. All Javi I've tasted so far is not pleasant to eat, but must be forced down the hatch, and smells like the urinal at Bill's backwoods brothel.not that I know what that smells like, I'm sure I'm not alone on this, and sure some who havent tried it will tell me its very good.... I've had 6 different pigs and only one was disgusting like you guys mention. I've always wanted to smoke one but I usually grill them like deer steaks. You can also marinate them in barbque sauce and grill them. I'm telling you guys they are really good when field dressed right!! The big trick is to try and skin them without touching the gland on the back and certainly don't touch the meat if you happen to touch anything musky on the animal (like the gland on the back). I think alot of people try and cut that gland out and you don't have to, just skin it as you would any animal and the gland comes off with the skin. I have marinated them in Lawry's citrus grill sauce and it was AMAZING! I have also done lots of smoked jerky and used them in sausage. Amanda Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
AZantlerhead Report post Posted December 9, 2009 I heard they have musk glands all over and are very difficult to field dress properly for good table fair.. Maybe it's not that hard to do?? Searching the web for detailed, illustrated instructions on Javi processing.................. They are awesome to hunt, maybe I'll taste one that's just as good to eat sometime. Not saying anything against you not eating it. Like coyote I will shoot them and not eat them. I put a stink pig in that boat for me. I DO NOT HUNT THEM.
