Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 5, 2009 The tag antelope tag numbers for 19 and Big Chino seems conflicting in results and fallout. The parties involved, hunters and wildlife both win and lose whichever way the commission decides today. I have a feeling that they will run with a reduced permit number. To maintain last years permit numbers would have disastrous results an the herds surrounding the ranch. Closing the ranch to hunting by removing it from the guidelines will create possibly irreparable ill-will, regardless of the message it sends. Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 5, 2009 The commission contacted the Big Chino and were able to secure access and maintain permit numbers. Good news, now if the hunters will behave with good manners to maintain this situation. RR

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted December 5, 2009 What is the Commissioners name that just spoke for the rights of archers? I believe you are referring to Robbie Woodhouse

DesertBull Report post Posted December 5, 2009 The commission contacted the Big Chino and were able to secure access and maintain permit numbers. Good news, now if the hunters will behave with good manners to maintain this situation. RR IMO, they should have cut tags. Last year was devastating as all tag holders were forced onto small areas of public land. The buck herd was basically wiped out.
lucky2hunt Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Holy Crap... AZG&F spokesman in defending the reason for moving up archery elk hunts after Terry Herndon and Mr. Agnew brought to the attention that the season is too early for the rut: "We are not offering a Rut Hunt, we are only offering an early hunt to archers" One resolution the spokesman stated, offhand, was to move up other firearm hunts to go before archery then move the archery bull back 2 weeks! Obviously this guy IS NOT an archer and has no concept of of this type of hunting....UGH
runningbird Report post Posted December 5, 2009 I am at work this morning so I could not make it to the meeting. But this is the attitude toward archers for the last 7 or so years. Unbelievable!
Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Runningbird, I think that you will find the attitide towards archers by the commission becoming more favorable with the newer members. Ilene, If they simply switched the earlyrifle/muzz with eth archery, they would be in the same pre-rut situation archers are in, and that would not be good. Better to move the archery and early rifle both back a week, but as Brian mentioned, that steps on the successive hunts. See Chads list of hunt in the other thread about the Oct riflfe hunts, or look in the regs. As Chad posted, it is a continuous string of hunts in the fall. Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Looks like the elk proposal was passed by a 4-1 vote. No change/action regarding the Oct rifle bull. Nov rifle bull will be in 5B, (not split into N&S anymore) and no action to move the archery bull back one week. The one change was to increase the permits in unit 1 by 125? cow permits to maintain the elk herd, rather than expand as proposed.
