hunterofcoues Report post Posted December 4, 2009 Making a big move! Just accepted a job in Anchorage, Alaska. Winters are going to be cold, but hey grizzly, goat, sheep, moose, wolf, caribou, sitka deer trips will help me get through it. So right now I have my trusty 270 as my only rifle. What additional rifle do you recommend I purchase? I would feel undergunned if a grizzly makes trouble. I hear a lot about 375 H&H, are others better? Appreciate your advice. Red Rabbit Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I believe the most common chamberings among Alaskans are 300WM and 338 WM
scoutm Report post Posted December 4, 2009 Seems like botht he 325 WSM and the 338 WM are two of the most talked about cartridges on some of the Alasksa Outdoor Forums. You may want to check some of them out for some advice.
willhunt4coues Report post Posted December 4, 2009 A 45/70 or 45/110 should do it for just about anything
GameHauler Report post Posted December 4, 2009 7MM-08 I would love to hunt Alaska with my 375JDJ. As much as I love my 7Mag I would get a 300 something.

Oak Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Congratulations on the move! I'm very envious. As others have said, you can't go wrong with the .338WM. That's probably what I'd be looking at. Perhaps a M700 XCR...
