cmc Report post Posted November 30, 2009 Who here hunts with a single pin slider? What got you to give it a try and what have you found to be the pro's and con's of using one for hunting. Obviously I'm more interested in the cons as the pro of greater accuracy is a big plus. My issue is all the moving parts and on pack in bow hunts that's an issue with me. My bow has enough moving parts to double them by adding in just the sight has me leery. Thanks cmc
inline Report post Posted November 30, 2009 I hunted several years with a the Sure-loc max with 3 pins, until I got caught unprepared so I know have it in a 5 pin. As far as durability they are very well made and will take a beating. If you hit and break it you would have broken just about any sight no madder what sight was on your bow. I would stay away from a single pin go with a minimum of 3. It is nice to dial the sight right in on bedded deer, or shots between pins.
TEAM JESUS Report post Posted November 30, 2009 Used too, was always afraid of being caught off guard and getting a shot but not be able to adjust fast enough or haveing to hold high or low. Now I use a 7 deadly pins.
gauchoand Report post Posted November 30, 2009 I have tried them and went bach pretty quick the issue with a single pin is that when you have a shooting situtation how much time do you really have to take to adjust the pin. What happens if you draw at 40 yards and cant take the shot til its at 20. I like the tried and true fixed pins. The adjustable pins make sense at longer yardages where you might have more time to set up the shot and where noise isnt as important. My recommendation is that you can buy sights that have 4-5 fixed pins and also have an adjustable pin. I have looked at one made by limbsavers that was pretty nice. Codywhi Report post Posted December 1, 2009 i use the sure-loc leathel weapon max 3 pin and love it, i have no cons about it at all, now if a deer is at 45 or 47 i dial my sight right in to the range he is and hold dead on no more pin gap i think that is the biggest pro about slider sights... i used an hha single pin on an elk hunt i had last year and i was worried about having to move it while runnin and gunning after elk,it worked fine on all set up, even calling in elk..... the part about being worried about movable parts is dont buy cheap and you wont have to worry about it, i have never had a problem with my sure loc but the hha i had problems with stick with a sure loc or the new spot hogg.... oh yea and listen to the BowCast Episode you cant go wrong.... pronghorn Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I have used a Custom Bow Equipment 3D/TL for years with no problems whatsoever! I have not missed single opportunity due to having a single pin. On really quick shots you can simply hold over or under, with practice this becomes much more precise than it sounds. I have only had to do it once and I found that 5x5 bull less than 100 yards away. muskrat Report post Posted December 5, 2009 I'm hunting with a single pin (no slider) Of course, based on my success, I wouldn't put much weight in my opinion ;-) I have a Vital gear http://www.vitalgear.net/Single_pin_Technology.html single angular pin with hollow pino http://www.vitalgear.net/Hollowpino_Technology.html
Mr. Jonathan Report post Posted December 5, 2009 I shoot the sure-loc sportsmans special single pin. It's incredibly tough and durable- no problems there. As far as getting caught with out being prepared, if you have time to range find the animal you have time to adjust your sight, and putting the pin dead on without having to hold off target like using a fixed pin sight will always help you to be more accurate. I like the idea of multi pin sliders, but the single pin has just been a tremendous help to me as far as keeping focused. This was a good year for a slider sight! And definitely listen to that bowcast episode- the FMP dudes helped convince me back in the day to make the switch.
