June Report post Posted November 23, 2009 First of all, Before I go any further I want to apologize to anyone I may offend by this post. Especially, if this is a member's camp. "Which I highly doubt"!! Or a friends camp and so on.. Second, I hope me posting this will help others and can be used as a learning experience. With that said..My cousin and I were out scouting today and we came upon a successful camp from the previous whitetail hunt.. How do I know they were successful, you ask.. I will show you.. But I'm a little perturb and confused. I don't know the circumstances of this camp. Only what I saw.. I sure hope they had a good explanation. Or maybe they were caught up in their success and forgot what a privilege we as hunter's have. This is not the first time I have seen this.. And unless, I missed the memo.. I wasn't brought up this way either. So I will let you decide if I'm blowing this out of proportion..I hope this will remind us that we are stewards of the land and need to cast a good image as hunter's. In the pictures you can see a deer cape left in the tree. And attached to the rope are several cut rabbit feet that were wired tied to the rope and left. What was most disturbing. One complete rabbit carcass that an animal had tried to eat.. I'm not going to discuss wasting of game meat and the potential fine related.. Again, I was not there and don't know the full circumstances. Again , Don't want to offend anyone, Let's just clean up after ourselves.. Here are a couple of pictures of what we found within eye sight of the road. Sorry, having trouble posting the pictures.. Will try again in a few..

Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 23, 2009 June, What you saw is what can help get gates locked by ranchers and gives a black eye for hunters in the public's view. I do not think pictures are necessary, as your description is enough, at least for me. I was always taught to leave a spot cleaner than you found it. Hopefully hunters with a conscience can agree with your disgust and note future behavior. Unfortunately, some slobs are incorrigible, and there seem to be a too great percentage of them among our ranks. As a side rant, taking a crap behind camp and leaving the TP to blow around the camp area is pretty disgusting . There are shovels or boot heals to dig a hole, and rocks to pile atop the covering dirt mound. Doug

We always pack a good shovel with us, and we have a strict rule when the kids and I (and my friends) camp; "Walk Far & Dig Deep" is our saying!!!! A must! My kids know it, and follow it religiously! Especially important if you have dogs in camp! S.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 23, 2009 Stan, When Rica was a pup, we went to a turkey camp on the north Kaibab. Ten minutes after letting her out of the truck, she comes back having found a pile of human feces to rub her back onto. Sounds like you have had a similar unpleasant experience. Sam Report post Posted November 23, 2009 Seems like I always end up with extra garbage after every outing. I have a very hard time with seeing all the trash in our deserts and forests. I think the worst was a camp I came across in 5A a few years ago. A ripped dome tent that was blown under a log, a fly a few yards away - no stakes or poles? Plus beer bottles every where and a fold up toilet seat. I was amazed! Yes, I did clean everything up. I was glad my kids didn't see this. This is why I always have garbage bags in my truck. In fact, I was mad as heck when we were cleaning up their camp. Yeah, the TP stuff blows and doesn't take much effort to cover. I was pretty reluctant to walk very far as nothing was covered. After we took down all the tree ornaments and dismantled their fire ring. You could hardly tell anyone had camped there. Didn't take much effort. I too have encountered a many of upset ranchers throughout the years. And it ain't no fun trying to explain someone else's deal.
WinMag Report post Posted November 23, 2009 June I feel your pain and agree 100%. It's not just hunters, Jeepers, Campers, Quad riders, Shooters or Ect , Ect, Ect, It's people in general. There are alot of people out here in the world that are plain ol' simple slobs!! I see it every year and every day when I go out in the back country. There are new trails that did not exsist before, from Quads, Jeeps, hikers, campers and others along with tons and tons of shot up targets from the shooters left behind from the days events. The best way to deal with this is to get involved and participate in every clean-up you have time to do. Then it is our job to educate every person you see in the outback acting like an idiot. We can educate them by ethier making this same point to them as to why it is important to show a good image. Then there is the other education we can do. Which is write down plate numbers and take pictures of thier camps and turn them in to LEO. If we dont we will loose that right to use our lands very soon. NRS Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Unburied human waste and TP are also a peeve of mine. The BLM had to shut down the camp ground on the Gila River above Winkleman because the lazy slobs could not walk the 100 feet to the outhouse to do their business. You could not take a step without putting your foot in some poo. They still have not found anybody willing to go in and clean up the area because it is to far from where the people that are willing to do that sort of thing live. Just as a reminder, there will be a clean-up in the 36a,b area on the weekend of December 4-5 which is a good opportunity to show that hunters really do care about the land and resources.
