dpr64 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 Shot a nice one last afternoon of the early November hunt... I am trying to figure out if it actually scores higher than the one I got 3 years ago.. The older one is narrower and fits in between this years rack but the tines are markedly longer... Can anyone tell me which one might technically score higher and what it might be? Thanks... CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 14, 2009 My suggestion is to just score them and find out. If you want info on scoring here it is: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/how_to_score..._Coues_deer.htm Tine length is generally the biggest factor in the score, but it looks like your buck with long tines has shorter main beams, a narrower spread and less mass. So sometimes tine length isn't enough....just rough score them yourself and let us know what you come up with. there is a spreadsheet on that link above where you can enter your measurements and it will calculate the score. Couesdeer Report post Posted November 14, 2009 +1 on the scoring it yourself. I'm thinking your older deer will win out though, but that's just a wild guess...
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted November 14, 2009 I say your last one is larger by a bit.... the g3's are what put him over the top.
dpr64 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 Doing the scoring on the coues but the last circumference halfway between the last G point and the tip of the main beam has me stumped.. Is it halfway BETWEEN the two or is it halfway between the centerline of the last G point and the tip of the mainbeam? Thanks.
elkaholic Report post Posted November 14, 2009 hello - you always measure circumference in the narrowest spot between each point !! you cannot measure between the last point and the end of the beam ! if you print out the score sheet it is really easy to follow ! gary
johnnie blaze Report post Posted November 14, 2009 half way between the last tine and the end of the mainbeam. not the center of the tine, but either way will be close enough for a rough score.
dpr64 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 Elkaholic, on the coues they say to measure the circumference between the last G tine and the mainbeam point IF the G4 tine does not exist.. It looks like the one from a few years ago is about a 98 and this years is just over 80... It looks so much bigger and beefier though!!
Coues Archer Report post Posted November 15, 2009 I would say the three point cuz of the g3's on it.
SunDevil Report post Posted November 16, 2009 I would guess the 3 pt because those 3rds are so long but measure them up and let us know.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Doing the scoring on the coues but the last circumference halfway between the last G point and the tip of the main beam has me stumped.. Is it halfway BETWEEN the two or is it halfway between the centerline of the last G point and the tip of the mainbeam? Thanks. halfway between the centerline of the last point and the tip of the main beam I discuss how to do it and show photos of where that last circum is on this page: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/how_to_score..._Coues_deer.htm
555 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 They are both nice, but Im thinking the one that already has the skull cut is bigger as far as scoring - not even close.
