Donating deer tags

Recommended Posts

I have a situation I know you guys on the site can help me with. My twin sons each drew wt deer tags for 11-27 to 12-03-09. As much as I looked forward to guiding them to their first big-game kills, they have informed me they no longer want to go on this hunt. They both made the JV soccer team and their first game is during the hunt. They have worked very hard to raise their grades and make this team, so as much as dad wants them to hunt this year, I am being very supportive of their soccer aspirations and let them off the hook for the hunt.

I have seen posts about one or more non-profits on this site who take terminally-ill kids hunting who could use these tags if my boys aren't. Who can direct me to one of these groups so I can feel that at least somebody's kids gets the joy of this experience? It sure would help me feel a lot better about the whole situation.

Thanks in advance to the members of the best hunting site in the world.

Lee

I sent mine to Eddy also. They sure are a great bunch give him a shout and he will let you know what to do. Maybe next year they will want to go. I have been trying to get my daughter to go but she thinks they are too cute to shoot...go figure (GIRLS) :)

Thanks Amanda, GH and willhunt,

Sent email to Eddy and Chris. Will talk to one of them soon. BTW, the twins liked the idea. I'm getting stoked about a couple of kids getting an opportunity they might not have gotten. Hope they can find a couple of kids on short notice. Lord works in mysterious ways. Thanks again.

I almost donated my elk tag, but a turn of events allowed me to make the hunt afterall. Eddie understood that the donation might be a last minute deal and was not a gaurantee.

If anything happens in the future where I can't hunt I will certainly donate to them. It is nice to see those kids get a chance to hunt, and just spend some quality time in the outdoors. It is a great thing that someone is willing to make it happen for them! :)

Not to get off topic too much. Say my wife doesn't get her unit 8 bull by Sunday the 29th. Can she donate it since there will be 4 days left on the hunt? She is going out of town and can only hunt the 1st 3 days.

Probably not. Eddy told me that he needs to get the tag and donation affadavit 3 days before the hunt starts! The form can be printed off of their website.

That is a good question and i would need to check with Eddy myself since he handles most of the transfers. The biggest obstacle would be getting a hunter in the field. Most of the kids involved with OE4A are still in school so we tend to go hard on weekends and keep the kids in school as much as we can.

I want to thank all of you for your the tags you have donated and for simply spreading the word. I knew that up to 10% of hunting tags go unused each year but i figured it might take more than 5 years to get the word out about organizations like ours. But thanks to folks like Amanda and all of you on the forum we have a constant stream of tags coming in.

BTW, we are really looking for some late 6A rifle bull tags. We sent a letter to every tag holder expecting a strong reply but we have not had a single tag come in yet. So if you know someone with a tag and they won't be able to use it please have them get in touch.

Thanks again for your help!
