GameHauler Report post Posted November 8, 2009 I kicked it around pretty heavy last year but Now I have decided to start putting in. I do not have the remotest idea what to do and I found the NM regs very hard to transverse. Any of you guys want to lead me in the right direction I would be very grateful. Even the slightest bit of info will help since I will spend a ton of time between now and App. time to chose my choices. I am not getting any younger and like a dumb a$$ abused my body without making a fortune doing it so I feel this is a hunt I can afford since I doubt Alaska will ever have the opportunity of my presents Thank guys and I think PM's may work best for you or post away. Chef Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Get a hold of Jordan at http://wildmountaintaxidermy.blogspot.com/ I've been with him on a few hunts on the Kaibab. He skins, capes, and mounts more Oryx than anyone in the US. He just wrote a book with very helpful tips on hunting these in NM. Give him a holler and mention my name. Good luck! WFGinNM Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I've been on Rhodes a few times for Oryx. Not near as much as some folks, I've just never been an Oryx junkie like some. It has never been a real hard hunt, (although some will have different opinions). Kilimanjaro Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I used to put in for oryx in NM for a few years.. I then found out that they're MUCH larger on average on their home range in the Kalihari once I went over there the 1st time. Haven't put in for them in NM since then.. Two day hunt with the mad dashes are just too pressured for me. Ibex are another story. This will be my 11th year in a row to try for a tag! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I should have enough change saved to get me real close to the fees. I am just going to have to wait and see how it goes before deadline. huntswnm Report post Posted December 19, 2009 He is right man.....NM has no preference point system so no matter when you start applying you have as much of a chance to draw the tag next year as you do in ten years.......BUT you can't draw if you never put in..... I'm pretty sure it was the 2nd year they had hunts on the Oscura Range (now the northern part of Rhodes Canyon hunt).
