full moon

Recommended Posts

There a full moon out this week

I have always felt like if there a full moon the big bucks go nocturnal.

I have experienced that on some of my hunts over the years.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

if i have my choice, i like a full moon for most hunts. seems like they are up longer in the morning and and get up earlier in the evening. the full moon is like any other weather condition. the animals are still there. Lark.

What I've found is that they bed earlier or may be bedded when the sun comes up but I usually see them move around a bit between 8-10am and then start to come out earlier in the evening.

The last few days I've noticed that the deer will bed at first light and some get up late morning to feed and re-position to a shady bed. I've been watchin deer stay bedded all day and even past last light until I couldn't see through the binos anymore. The deer I'm seeing are definitely not active much in the evening the last few days with this current moon phase. First light is the ticket right now where I'm at on the bigger bucks. May be different elsewhere though.

This has been my experience with full moons. Deer will get up about a couple hours before sundown, just for a short while, and then bed down again through darkness.

If there is a full moon, I usually expect to see fewer deer moving in the morning. I'm usually up high and look for them to be moving up to the beds in the morning. But I just thought that with the moonlight they would feed more through the night and head to the beds earlier. So I hit the brush - slow and easy with a lot of glassing into the brush. That's just the way dad taught me. I saw a book years back that was about moon phases and deer activity. I never got the chance to read it though.

From my trail cam pictures as soon as it is a full moon the 1 day the deer and all other animals are moving by my cam every 1/2 hour day and night. Look closely at your camera pics and that one day they are everywhere. Other times it is a hit and miss. So if you have a camera watch it closely and you will see what I mean.
