bombero13 Report post Posted June 27, 2005 Check out this link: http://arizona.indymedia.org/news/2005/06/27962.php Pay particular attention to the closing comments. These guys will try to screw up your hunt. If you have the unfortunate luck to share the field with them, be careful, they have been known to take direct action against those who don't share their views. Do a web search on Rodney Coronado, the convicted felon and arsonist who wrote the above article, and was in the field protesting the prairie dog hunt. Not someone I'd care to camp next to... Oh yeah, and he's a Tucson resident. Be safe.

az4life Report post Posted June 27, 2005 These are some real nuts. How dare they threaten to ruin someones hunt! I dare say that some otherwise cool headed hunter might just blow his top if they show up to ruin his Bighorn Sheep or Trophy Bull Elk hunt. A disembowled prairie dog could be the least of the worries if that happens. Comparing prairie dogs to the Bison is like comparing horseflies to bald eagles. We all know, Most folks do not deal well with threats, and Incindiary articles and comments such as this do not help causes or bring anyone closer to understanding the other point of view. Sounds like no one threatened them but they turn around and threaten others as retaliation? Have an open mind and work through the system. I have noticed that Extremists are rarely considered the voice of reason, representing a majority in an argument.. IMHO Going out and SERIOUSLY advocating sabotage is more than extreme, it is plain Wrong!
az4life Report post Posted June 27, 2005 Wow! I just googled Rodney Coronado. Major player in the Extremist Terrorist brigades. First link I found is excerpted below. Rodney Coronado Biography Rodney Adam Coronado is a long-time ringleader of the Animal Liberation Front, a criminal enterprise that the FBI classifies as America?s most dangerous domestic terrorism threat. (Obvioulsy he is just misunderstood) He was sentenced in 1995 to 57 months in federal prison, for the 1992 arson of a Michigan State University research laboratory. In a November 30, 2002 speech, Coronado openly confessed to at least six other arsons, all of them part of a crime spree known as ?Operation Bite Back.? While the FBI was most intensely investigating Coronado, PETA gave him over $70,000 in ?grants? from its tax-exempt coffers. Coronado has been associated with criminal animal-rights organizations since at least 1984, when he joined the Sea Shepard Conservation Society. In November 1986, Coronado and David Hewitt sabotaged a whaling station and sunk two whaling ships in Reykjavik, Iceland. Since that time, Coronado has shown a tendency to flee jurisdictions where warrants were issued for his arrest. He fled Vancouver in 1987, later jumped bail following another arrest in Canada, and went on the run in 1993, hiding on an Indian reservation while the FBI searched for him for nearly two years. Despite his self-description as a ?former? Animal Liberation Front activist, Coronado remains active in the animal rights criminal culture, currently fronting for a special-interest ALF subset known as ?SHAC.? In a classroom on the campus of DC?s American University in January 2003, Coronado demonstrated for a crowd of college radicals the ?correct? way to build a firebomb out of household materials. Lots More out there but this is the short and sweet version.
newbee Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Be sure to know "use of force " laws before you go out this season, also you need to be able to articulate exactly what happend and how the threat elevated high enough for you to feel your life or person ,and/or other persons lives were in danger from serious bodily harm ,injury and or death, (a rock ,branch, log etc. can be used as a deadly weapon )so dont under estimate the power of improvising. be safe out there
galiuro mountain man Report post Posted July 1, 2005 Just stay away from high density hunting areas and you shouldnt have any problems. I hunt way out of normal travel because of these nuts. I have had problems twice, and both on the Aug archery deer hunt. One time I was in unit 27 driving from one area to another and saw someone turn around and follow me. I stopped my truck where I got out to walk and they (4 of them) stopped about 100 yards from me. I just went on my way and ran into a small herd of deer with a couple of bucks in it. I grabbed an arrow and the people started yelling and the deer spooked. They started laughing and yelling at me, so I ran to get away from them. I ended up in a nasty canyon and picked my way through, I got on the other side and saw them trying to make it across. One of them fell hard so they left. When I got back to my truck I had 2 flat tires (slit sidewalls) and a note that said "we are watching you" so being 16 I got back into the forest and slept there all night, I was safer there than anywhere those wacos would find me. The next morning I flagged down another hunter on the highway and called the police. They finally got there and I showed them the note and tires, I also told them the make and model of vehicle. I havent heard anything since then. The other time was in unit 29, I was hunting with some friends and were driving and saw some deer. We decided to drive past them and sneak up on them. We got out of the truck and got about 50 yards from them and a truck drove by, the couple stopped and talked with our girlfriends that were in our truck. He got hateful towards our girlfriends and spun out backwards, spraying our truck with rocks. He got to where the deer were and let his dogs out, they chased the deer then were growling at us, so I shot one of his dogs wth a blunt at 10 yards, so he called his dogs off and we ran to our truck. He was yelling at us while he was haullin butt toward our truck, I yelled for the girls to get out and he swerved at the last second away from our truck. He stopped about 50 yds ahead and said he was calling the police, which never came. He drove off honking the whole way. One other thing happened to a friends dad in unit 29. He shot a nice deer,, so he went to Portal and was restocking his camp supplies so his friend could continue to hunt. He came back out to his truck and his deer was gone, the people left a note that said something like "we took your deer back to nature for a proper burrial" Im not sure i that is exactly what it said, but it is close. KGAINES Report post Posted July 2, 2005 I have heard of one guy who was planning on packing in overnight, and had three or four people start to follow him when he left his truck, they were wearing shorts and carrying pots and pans to make noise, apparently the hunter decided to let them follow and not say a word, when it got dark and he started to make camp they came to him for help, he told them to keep their distance from him, after it got late he snuck out, the next afternoon when he reached his truck to load up their vehicle was still there. I can't remember exactly where I heard this story and it could be crap, but I have always kind of believed it and kind of hoped that if people don't want to hunt then they should leave the people that do alone or the same kind of thing could happen to them. Me personally I think after about 1/4 of a mile of somebody following me they just might get their rear kicked. Like I said this is hearsay, and I think I was in high school when I heard it. grizzly Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Late hunt in 21 this past Dec my brother and I had scouted a real nice deer. We went to the hill where we had seen him several times and there were people camping on the water hole in the bottom of the canyon making lots of noise. We heard them all day long while hunting. When we got back to the quad about an hour after dark the key we had put under a rock was gone. We had just one quad between us and left the key in case we got seperated. It was about a 2 hour hike out to our truck, then we had to drive back in to get the quad.
az4life Report post Posted July 3, 2005 At least they did not do damage to the quad. We have heard some extreme examples of the lengths these wackos will go to. I would have been mad if that happened to me. but After a while I would have reflected how it could be worse. All these posts emphasize the point we all need to take care! Trust that which you know... and be on guard against that which you don't.
