Up for A trade Hunt?

Recommended Posts

Howdy: I am looking to trade hunts with anyone in the greater Coues hunting area, ie. AZ.

I would be willing to swap a hunt for: Eastern Wild Turkey, 2 Bird Spring Limit. (Or)

A Whitetail Hunt; Bow, Rifle or Muzzleloader with the opportunity for black bear. (Or)

Flyfishing on any of the Catskill's Famous Fly-waters such as the Beaverkill and/or Willowemoc. (or / or with Turkey Combination)

I would even swap an icefishing trip to any of those hardy enough to take me up on it.

If any of the above offers intrigue you, let's start talking. My first encounter with a Coues was two years ago post Christmas on the Mexican Border South of Sierra Vista, beautiful creature and awesome country. I was talked out of a Mountain Lion Trip and didn't bring my bow along not knowing that I could have grabbed an over-the-counter archery tag. Oh well. For some reason I want to try to get one of them with the bow after seeing them so close. I have attached a picture of a Coues buck from my 2007 Arizona trip, which doesn't do him justice, I estimated the yardage at 37 yards at the first time that I stepped out of the jeep.

Anyway, if you are interested or just want to chew the fat about my or your locale and what it offers I'll be checking in on the forum.

By the way, this isn't an ad, but just to let you know, I am a licensed New York State Fishing and Hunting Guide, Badge #4646 and that a swap hunt would have no monetary value and could not be sold or given to someone else.

Geez Gamehauler, that's a bit harsh.... He is offering a trade not just trying to get something for nothing. Doesn't seem so bad to me.

Anyway, I hope you and whoever takes you up on it make a deal that works for you both.

Welcome to the forum.

I assume you want someone to show you a spot for archery? I'll trade all the coues spots I know for a chance to hunt some easterns in New York. Don't reply if you don't want a backpack trip.

hello - I'm with you on this one Amanda - Gregg shows a deep desire to harvest a coues buck- the hunts hes offering in return are some great hunts/fishing trips and from a licensed guide !

If someone has the desires to hunt/fish in New York - then this is a perfect opportunity to do so !

You can't blame a guy for trying. He's not asking for a licensed guide to hunt with - just the chance to hunt with someone knowledgable about coues hunting - what better place to ask than here !!!

AC - anyone willing to sit in a ice hut and ice fish - - would probably love the idea to pack into a remote area to hunt-

Gregg welcome to the site and I hope someone accepts your offer - Gary

Gregg, welcome to the best darn coues whitetail site in the world. The knowledge you will gain from here is the best there is to offer when it comes to wanting to know about our coues deer. I hope someone takes you up on your offer. I wish I could afford your offer. I'm sure you have some great hunting and fishing back your way. Thanks for coming on our site and welcome once again. Good luck in your quest for a coues deer hunt. You'll have a blast chasing these little guys. :)

I just wanted to start out by saying "Thank You." It tells me quite a bit about those who frequent a site and a topic forum where all you get is what you are willing to give, and the fact that strangers would put faith in another stranger says a lot. I have faced doubters/hecklers before, and I'm sure that I will face many more. I was the president of or local QDM branch and had faced many a doubter, it is part of what we do. Sportsmen & women often border on the skeptical, but I can see that many out there share a similar camaraderie and spirit as I.

Pack hunts are great as long as I got some saddle time on a horse prior to heading out west.

I will respond more thoroughly when I have more time, I'm going to be late for work.

hello - gregg - lol -- you shouldn't have to worry about horse /saddle time - the type of pack trips coues hunters talk about is backpackin - make sure you get a quality pack big enough for a 3-4 days outing with all the lite weight items needed to be comfortable -! invest some time in the gym on the stair climber - lol - Gary

Sorry, mis-read ac-guy's post as pack trip, not back packing. I'd be up for back-packin'. I think that I have an external frame pack that would be up to it.(if NWA doesn't lose it on the flight out, or rip all the straps off of it like another carrier tried on a Northern Maine Woods/Allagash Grouse trip that I was on in the beginning of the month).

I try to stay in shape, I might be able to swing it.

I am laughing as I type this. I think I'll like this forum.

hello - if you look at some of the pictures of the nice bucks - ignore the racks for a moment - check out the back ground - lots of hillsides-canyons etc. packing into the remote places , generally means a chance at a better /bigger buck - the same with a lot of the stories - climbed this mountain - shot accross that canyon - etc. etc . You were pretty lucky to get a picture of a decent buck by just stepping out of a jeep- - hope fully you'll be able to hook-up with some guy here -

I'm sure hunting and fishing in NY is basically the same ! Gary

Elkaholic: I have seen the country and been in a bit of it, I think that it is spectacular. I would love to have the challenge of in getting into some remote location, play the wind right and get a stalk on a deer, maybe even get a shot off. The experience alone would be worth the trip. I have read the stories, seen the lands and am chomping at the bit to get back out there. I like it because of the late rut coinciding with the winter holidays. It is one of the few hunting scenarios that I could swing (fit my schedule). Again, if anyone is seriously up for a swap, let me know.

Oh, the picture was within 3 days of Christmas and my assumption was that the rut was on based on his (the buck's) lack of concern for my presence. It seemed as if he were bird-dogging a few does that were in the area and that he didn't have a care in the world that I was there. It was just one of those situations that happen were you find a good buck in the right mood.(and w/no Bow!)

Well folks, sorry about not putting much up here, but I've been out a bit. Yesterday, Veteran's Day found me on a little piece that I hunt trying to fill a doe tag. I was able to sneak out at around 11:30, and had a doe down by 12:03PM. I had left my truck and walked in toward a stand that I have about 3/4 mile in. I notice a buck about 150 yards after I had left my truck and knelt down to watch him. He came up to a rub, sniffed it and then disappeared. I noticed a 3'x2' scrape about 10' from me and decided to wait around to see what unfolded next. The buck headed to the south and kicked up a doe that he ended up chasing directly toward me. The doe paused at about 45 yards out and started doing the head bob, then started to stomp the ground and very slowly-slowly approach me head on. I fished out my range finder and was trying to pick out trees on the approach path, 44, 37, 39 yards. She came in head-on and had that look like she was about to explode out of there. She started to pivot, I drew, put the 40 pin on her and squeezed. She took off at the shot and I heard the arrow hit her. She ran about 30 yards and I heard the tell-tale crash. I watched the area that she fell and the buck that had chased her to me found her and started circling her. I gave it 5 minutes, went up to where she had stood at the shot, found my arrow, and could see the white-belly from there but did the obligatory blood trailing to the doe just to stay fresh. Not a bad day.

I had already taken a good six pointer on the 25th of October with the bow. Saturday, I am going to focus on bear if the Nor' Easter doesn't wreck my plans.

Again, thanks to all those that have shown interest in swapping hunts.
