PJM Report post Posted November 5, 2009 GR, The AR is an excellent rifle in the field. Look into the 6.5 Grendel. I have been building one for just that purpose. One can load the 6.5 Grendel brass with 123 gr, a perfect round for deer. I have all the parts but the barrel, got crazy and bought a couple shotguns. Now the CFO has me on a diet with my discretionary spending. I guess the 6.5 will be out next season. I hunt 35A and know about the two legged critters. Having the extra rounds is not a bad idea. But in my experience, the boarder crossers want nothing to do with you, they're happy to be headed North. Last year we glassed 4 mules carrying large backpacks, took the GPS coordinates that we passed onto boarder patrol. The officer we spoke to said they already picked up the smugglers. Don't worry, your safe Big Brother is watching! The 308 is awesome, but if you have the bull barrel, it's going to get heavy quick lugging it over the from one glass point to another.
