joeybari Report post Posted October 28, 2009 I have been arguing for years with my cousin regarding the best way to glass. He always states the best way to glass for Coues deer is from a high vantage point glassing down no matter what the season is of the hunt. My argument is to glass from a lower point or the base of the mountain glassing up in the beginning of the Coues seasons then you MAY want to glass from a high point at the end of the hunting season. I have to add that the both of us have been very successful at all times of the hunting seasons oct, nov and dec. I just want to know what the best way is for you to glass? What is your thought on glassing thought out the Coues hunting seasons? thank you
stanley Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Glass high, glass low! Glass short, glass tall! Glass fat, glass skinny!! JUST GLASS!!! In all seriousness though, I think it greatly depends on the area you're hunting (traffic, preassure, etc..) as to whether the deer are high or low. No single right answer there.... I do think though, that depending on the particular area, and depending on the time of day, that you might want to be glassing 'high' vs. 'low'. Depends on where there water, food, beds are for that particular area. S.
johnnie blaze Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Depends on where your vantage point is for each spot you hunt. Some of my spots have low vantage pts. and some are high vantage pts. But if I have a low and a high vantage point in the same spot, Ill hit the low one first(usually). That way I dont spook anything that might be lower heading to the upper. Red Rabbit Report post Posted October 28, 2009 If you are glassing from below, it is easier to look beneath the trees to spot a bedded buck. But from below, the curvature of the hill may hide the upper slopes if you are too close to the base.
azpackhorse Report post Posted October 28, 2009 If you happen to be up high, then glass low. If you happen to be down low, then glass up high. Works for me every time, no guff.
