My wife called me Friday morning all excited to tell me she had just seen a Mountain Lion fron her office window at 40th and Camelback. There is a small strip of desert between her office and an elementary school, and that's where he was. She said he was only about 25 yards away, and she knows distance pretty well because she has shot 3D's for years. I told her to call AZG&F. She called me back later and said the gal she talked to treated her like she was an idiot and did not believe she had seen a lion. She was told that a "specialist" would call her back, but they never did. She said it was a full grown lion. Unreal huh? Bears in Tucson and Lions in Scottsdale!

I can't say that I blame the AZGFD about not taking people serious anymore. I can't tell you how many times the "mountain lion" has turned out to be a large bobcat. :P People just don't know the two. If I was your wife I would have been mad though. It seems early for the animals to be looking for water though.

If I were you I would go find some of his tracks and then call azgfd back and let them know were to meet you, maybe then they will believe you

We just thought they would like to know. I know my wife knows the difference between a mountain lion and a Bobcat. Her discription of the animal was perfect. If G&F doesn't believe us..Oh well, no skin off our noses.

It doesn't surprise me, I have seen several bobcats on the golf courses in scottsdale, and cave creek area, but there have also been deer killed on a couple of the courses, I haven't seen the deer that were killed, but from the description of the prints and what I was told it sure sounds like lions.

Moral of the story: Never go to work without your bow and your lion tag.

Wow. Maybe there are some deer in that area too!

Seriously I hope GFD does investigate. Sure would seem prudent. One would have to believe that in that area, a Mtn Lion would not have much in the way of normal foold so humans hiking would be a substitute sooner or later.

It kinda makes a guy wonder what they do with calls like this.

And if it is near an elementary school, it may just trigger an attack a little sooner.
