jakehaffey Report post Posted October 15, 2009 I would think so, bigger bucks tend to move to locations with a lot of does. Keep the cam up and see if you find any bucks alone in the area, they will find the does.

Keep the cam up and see if you find any bucks alone in the area, they will find the does. I sure do hope so. On the early hunt we had nothing but does. I knew there were lots of deer in the area. So, I decided to build a couple of homebrews to see what was going on. I just checked one camera last weekend and in 3 weeks it took 357 pictures of: 5 different groups of does, 3 forks, 2 spikes, 1 fork non-typical, 2 ringtail cats, 4 Skunks and 2 squirrels. I hope some bigger bucks move in for December hunt. detox

bowsniper Report post Posted October 21, 2009 Find the does before the rut, and you will be set for a good rut hunt. You will definitely see big bucks during the rut passing through, but he won't stick around if that group of does are not in estrus. The best time to hunt is when that particular group of does go into estrus. The buck will be chasing, tending, and mounting does. If you hit that right, you will never forget it! A group of does may only be in estrus for 36 to 48 hours, and it could be any time mid December through January. Most groups of does usually go into estrus together over a few days. Watch the doe tarsal gland. When it starts to turn from dark brown to more black, they are close. Mark
