Fisherman2008 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 Hunted 29 last year and stayed in a campground that had bear-proof food lockers. We were visited by a bear during the night, and we saw loads of bear sign when we were out hunting (as well as seeing some bear hunters when we were scouting). 29 is a wonderful unit IMHO, if it was closer I'd hunt there every year. Coues Archer Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Just hunt and have fun!!! no bear is going to come at night and steal your food. Only if it packaged away safely. You might not want to leave it out on the floor who know how many critters will come at night.
Scottf Report post Posted November 5, 2009 Hi Guys Well maybe I made the bear thing to big of a deal. Didn't see or hear any bears. Did see some really big tracks though. Also some real nice cat tracks too. That made the hair on the back of neck stand up! We camped in the Turkey Creek camp grounds. We kept our camp clean and didn't have any trouble at all. Well unless you call all of the Blue jays steeling anything that fell from the table. We always had at least ten birds looking down at us eating. We saw turkeys right out of camp one time. Had a great time hunting but, no deer for our camp this year. We did see a really nice buck over at rock creek. Man oh man was that buck up high. To high for this old fat guy to go after. Even my son who was ready for anything, didn't think he could make it up there to that buck. Anyway, we had fun and I just wanted to say thanks for the help. Oh and by the way, do you think deer can read signs? They sure seemed to know, where the private ground was! Lots of deer down there in the private ground and not so much in the National forest where we were. It got to be kind of a joke, as we would drive down just to see them to make sure we knew what to look for! lol
