gmcbob Report post Posted October 5, 2009 I found this track this weekend - is this from a lion? Right in the middle of the picture, below the water. ...the deer tracks help put it to scale. Bob

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted October 5, 2009 Looks like nail marks above the center two toes, which tends to rule out Mtn lion. Sometimes dogs in mud will mush together and appear rounder than normal and more like a lion track. Amanda

I agree they look like nail marks and I missed it

gmcbob Report post Posted October 5, 2009 It is from 3C on a tank. Looks like it came in to drink and then left (only 2-3 tracks - all right there).
catclaw Report post Posted October 5, 2009 I have watched lions come in and drink, then gone to the tank and still could not find their tracks. They are very light-footed excepting maybe an adult with 30# of meat in his belly! When you see a lion track, you will know it!
fish Report post Posted October 5, 2009 nails are a dead give away- size isnt always any sort of indicator in mud - has a tendency of making tracks look bigger- another way to tell its not a cat track is the rear pad- See the two dinstinct lobes- cats always have 3 lobes- it would be very noticeable on a track that clear

WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted October 5, 2009 Doggy- Lion will be noticable rounder, smoother, with the pads not cutting in as deep even in mud, along with what some of the others have said.
