Mountain Lion picture

Recommended Posts

My son and I got to see our 1st mountain lion up close. It was dead. Not sure of the whole story, but from what the WM told us was that a guy was quail hunting and the lion started attacking his dog. He shot it with his shotgun but didn't kill it. The next day hounds found it and it was finished off. It was an adult female about 75 lbs. I got to see the claws. Now I know why they are amazing killers. Incredible how sharp they are. Here's a couple of pictures.

i was at the g&f place where that got taken a few hours later, remember its illeagal to shoot them with shotguns so if you are varmit calling and call one in make sure its with your rifle, the g&f officer said the guy said it just came out of a bush and put 3 loads of 7 1/2 in it, and then the rest of the story DUG told

He wasn't cited, but he didn't get to keep the lion either. You can protect your dog from an attack from a lion. Now if he would of had a slug he would have been legal. And if he had a tag he could of kept it. He wasn't issued a citation because of self defense. My son and I both put our lion tags and some slugs in our pockets that morning before starting our quail hunt. And then we found out about the lion being close to where we were.

What about buck shot? Is that legal?

Buckshot is not legal. Has to be shotgun shooting slug.

I'm about to turn 45 and my son is 18. He'll out hunt me by the time I'm 70. I did his 1st pig and elk. It's up to him now. Although I'll probably think he's doing it wrong or too slow and want to take over.

We have a brother and sister Brittany and a 10 mo. old english springer and a yellow lab. They are good on birds in the yard. We haven't really hunted them yet though. My spot at Tonto Basin is not real dog friendly. My son can also relate to that by getting stuck on the cholla a few times on Saturday.
