NRS Report post Posted September 22, 2009 that is an Ornate Box turtle, not a desert tortoise. they are actually not as common as the desert tortoises are so it is even cooler that you found one of them. Great pictures of the young hunters and all of the "trophies".

tjhunt2 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 Them are great pictures of the kids. I would frame them if I were you. I was wondering if you have ever thought of having them write down their adventures? Can you imagine what it would be like 30 yrs or so from now to go back and read their hunting journals. It's amazing how a story can refresh a mind and bring back memories that have been forgotten. Just a suggestion that I wish I would have done when I was their age. You are a great Dad to take the time to get them out and hunting. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of their hunting adventures. TJ

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted October 1, 2009 NRS is correct that is an ornate box turtle. I spent a summer studying them. Great little animals. AGFD is looking for info on them. You can report your sighting to them using this link: http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/boxturtlewatch.shtml Amanda
