I have quail, dove, and a few other birds destroying my garden. It is mainly the quail, what are some options on how to deal with these birds without getting into trouble. This is the first garden I have planted out here and I don't want to get into trouble.

You should try putting up a bird of prey decoy. Like an owl or a hawk. This should make them shy away from the garden.

Happy Birthday coueselk

We had one up for a while then I think they figured it out because they started coming in again, I didn't try moving it around to much though, maybe I should try that. I have been looking for anything that might work, and I came across these ,maybe an excuse to buy a new target.

i think you wrap the beasts in bacon and cook them slowly over the BB-Q grill served with a baked potato and beans mybe a salad.but that would be illegal. try something that flashes when the wind blows like tin foil on a stick or something

Keith

Moving an owl decoy around should help. We have some annoying noisey birds that seem to feed on our front yard in the early AM after we water the lawn. They stopped being a problem after we got the owl and moved it every couple days. Didn't move it too far (6-10 feet) but it seemed to do the trick

I think the Garden is going to attract them, so I would go with the owl and the tinfoil looking party streamers tied to something in the immediate area.

If they are still a problem during quail season, check into hunting with a pellet gun.

Good Luck

If it was quail season there would not be a problem, I am beginning to wonder if self defense would work, I would have witnesses.

Self Defense? Witnesses? would those witnesses be the talking tomatoes on the vine ripend commercial? LOL

Keith you should buy a couple of kites that look like a hawk, put a 14 feet or so pole with about 6 feet of string and those quail will be out of there for sure or buy one of those gas operated machines that make a loud sound like a shotgun shot, you enter or program how often you want the "boomm" to be heard but I wont recomended if you got neighbors really close to your house.

The other option will be to get rid of you garden :( take care and god bless.

Take beer cans or soda cans and cut little fins into them and place them on dowel rods around the garden. When the wind blows it will spin the cans.

How are birds destroying your garden greens? and not catepillars, rabbits, gophers or other insects

Sounds pretty bizarr.

Put out a quail block ($9.86 Walmart) away from the garden.

They were getting my tomatoes and peppers bad, I have done the tin foil thing and a scarecrow now too, so I will see, the funny thing is the rabbits have left it alone, they are eating my bermuda grass. If the rabbits start eating in the garden I think I can fix that problem.

If you can stand cats that is what I would get. We used to have a lot of quail till we got cats. Personally, I would much rather have the quail. ;)
