Land Access

Recommended Posts

After poking around recently in some of my old hot spots I have noticed that it is getting extremely hard to access them. It seems like every where I go I end up at a locked gate. I have gone to the county seat and purchased maps that show forest and state land behind those locked gates but the signs clearly post it as "no trespassing". I have spoken to the local game wardens and they said that there was nothing that they could do until the Forest Service or county stepped in. I am getting the feeling that it is just going to get worse with no end in sight.

Any body else finding the same thing? Any ideas?

This has been a problem for a long time and is nothing new. There are so many access issues that most can't be addressed. The Forest service can offer to buy a right of way or find a way, or to build a road around. But that is not as easy as it sounds. Actually, Game and fish has done a lot with the land owner respect program. Also, people can also make friends with rancers through the adopt a ranch program.

I would sugesting finding out who the land belongs to, giving them a real nice call on the phone and just ask if you can travel through their land to get to your hunting spot. You are not asking to hunt on their land right just asking to travel through it. If it was my land I would allow it, letting someone hunt on my land now that is another subject.

Lark,

You are right about that. What if you had a once-in-a-lifetime sheep tag in there and the only access to the biggest ram was through her property. Would you pay the $25 "trespass fee" that she is going to donate for sex therapy? I think I would be very tempted to break a law or two rather than pay her.
