youngbuck Report post Posted September 2, 2009 The only time I have ever read a book since Hatchet in the 6th grade and enjoyed it is while I am hunting in a blind. My sister and parents are all bork worms. They usually read at least 1 novel a week and it is not out of the ordinary for one of them to read two or three. The last book I read was Time to Hunt by Stephen Hunter. These Bob Lee Swagger stories is what the movie Shooter was based on. I really enjoyed it

Snapshot Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Patience is not one of my strong points. I cannot sit in one place for more than 2 hours, hence, I do not use blinds or stands. I am mainly a spot and stalk, or, intercept type of hunter. I rarely hunt the early season because my style of hunting requires alot of hiking and moving around, and it is just too dang hot most of the time, unless it is up in the high country On occassion I will sit in a natural blind setting overlooking a waterhole or spring and maybe a saddle where deer cross. And I may read a book or munch on some food, or glass as motionless as possible. But once I start getting fidgety, I move on.

Dick Report post Posted September 2, 2009 On my recent antelope hunt I set dawn till near dark every day for 8 days except for one. I think I read 5 Louie Lamour western novels. That was hunting out of a Double Bull, if I am in a tree stand, I just enjoy the surroundings, on rare occasions I will read.
Mrs125coues Report post Posted September 2, 2009 I do not read or play anything, as an animal can sneek up and I might just miss that small opportunity. I will watch out the blind or just enjoy the view from my stand, and dream up new recipes to cook with that tasty critter that I am going to harvest!! And I may read a book or munch on some food, or glass as motionless as possible. But once I start getting fidgety, I move on. I have the same problems. Especially knowing theres sheds to be found while moving in the woods. But after this last weekend sitting a water hole in the middle of knowwhere, I'm changeing bowhunting tactics. I had game come in every half hour and allmost sealed the deal on a little coues buck(I was gonna decide if he was big enough if i could draw up on him) but he spooked when i reached for my bow (I was simply sitting against a tree). So needless to say I learned a great deal about bow hunting and patience over the weekend. WITH THE HELP OF A GOOD LOUIS LA"MOUR PAPERBACK. Need I say bowhunting just became allot eaisier for me. Simply sit my arse in a good place with high traffic and wait, then wait some more " AMBUSH UMM". Stillhunting just has not worked for me except on a Javi one time. And spot and stock, well ive just never bowhunted in glassable open country before. Allthough it's what I rely on to find um with a rifle. So's, from now on, I'll sit in a blind or in a treestand and try not to fall asleep cause it's so dang hard . Especially for an on the move hunter like myself . If i get's one walking to or from my hot spot well that's just peachy too!! And I'll use my binoculars wherever terrain permits of course. We'll see if doing my best to be lazy and put long hours in sitting around can get some archery bucks on the ground for myself. Pure torture for me, but bloody arrows would be worth it. ( and haveing all kinds of game that close. ) (A hummingbird in my lap, does' and turkey a stepin on me and allmost getting a shot off in four hours was very enjoyable as well) Simply a matter of how many hours till THE buck walks in. Probly simple stats. And then the big one, well just don't shoot the little ones, am i missing something? or does this some up a good "bowhunter" . Ohh yeah, and left my smokes at home. They didn't even know i was there. Except for a funny lookin stump with a book beside it . But I see the need for a stand or blind to hide the movement of drawing your bow for sure. Just seems like that's the way everyones gettin it done( treestand or blind ). If you can't beat umm, join umm.

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 3, 2009 I do some reading. Those are some of the times I really appreciate the small camo bible I got from Desert Christian Archers. It's easy to pack and of course always has something interesting to read in it. Amanda
