BowNut Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Any of you ever bow hunt this time a year with shorts on. As hot as its been the last couple days I hunted I'm seriously thinking of going in to my spot in shorts tomorrow. I know once I get to the water hole it will not matter. I know I will get a late start tomorrow and its about 2miles into my spot and I know it will be hot!. I have seen deer every trip in so far and not sure how a stalk would go in shorts. I know I sound like a whiner but I'm in 35 deg. cooler all day at work so I don't like the heat! :P What do ya all think?
aka hey you Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Wouldnt hurt to try. Worst case scenario, you get to hunt another day. As far as stalking in shorts, Take knee pads for sure..
hoghntr Report post Posted September 2, 2009 I wear shorts in the blind ALL the time. Is it better to wear scent lock and sweat your but off, (stink) or is it better to stay cool, dry, and comfortable while spraying yourself down on and off with scent-a-way throughout the day. I choose the latter. i use unscented gel anti-persperant/deodorant made by mitchum. not some flakey or puddy like crap that doesnt work. I use under armour ((type)=wicking and does not stink when sweat hits it) shorts, underwear, & t-shirt and do pretty darn well. heck, wear black golf shirts in the blind, just dont wear cologne with it. i was recently laughed at for wearing shorts by someone WHILE THEY WERE HELPING ME PACK MY DEER OUT SHORTS MUST BE OK... although legs do get tore up allot. Scent control is not as hard to combat as people make it out to be. i will be the guy shooting an elk next week wearing shorts. HAPPY HUNTING!
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted September 2, 2009 I once sat in at a waterhole in NM on an early season pronghorn hunt stripped down to nothing more than my skivvies.. It was like sitting in an oven in that doublebull blind!! I think I lost 10lbs on that hunt doing nothing at all!
cbryant11 Report post Posted September 2, 2009 get ya some of them pants that zip off at the knee to make shorts, then you got the best of both worlds,...cbryant
Redman Report post Posted September 2, 2009 Sat in a blind last weekend, killed two scorpions, a few spiders, and had ants crawling all around and on me....that would be my only concern. Set my binos on the ground and picked them up, noticed something handing from the strap....in was a friggin scorpion!! I made sure my pants were touching my boots all day after that (thinking the insects would craw up my pants not under my pants) I also came upon two rattlesnakes. The joys of August! Dick Report post Posted September 2, 2009 I just returned from my antelope hunt and never wore long pants the entire time. I too set in a Double Bull blind, 8 days before finally killing. One day I had 117 degrees on my little digital thermometer. I like to carry that just to see how comfortable it is being inside and out of the elements?? I did get my legs a little scratched up and I too had one of those little brown scorpions crawling around in my blind but I would rather have him on my leg in shorts than inside my pants....that does not sound like fun

BowNut Report post Posted September 3, 2009 Nothing but a sunburn at the old water today.Did see a few deer on the way in 2 small 2 or 3 point whitetail and 1 mullie spike with about 5 ladies with him. I think maybe they started going to water at night with the full moon and all.
