regge090 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 6 am we arrived at the blind and got settled in. my son fell a sleep for about two hours and i had to wake him up to say there was a buck coming and GET UP!!! It took the buck about ten minits to get to us. then finally he gets there but on the wrong side of the blind and we weren't ready for him there. As he gets right up to us he looks in and walks away. Then we see movement again and this little spike comes running in and walks to the same place the bigger buck was and did the same thing. then minutes later they are walking away from us and disappear into the tree line. we settled back as we thought they were gone. to our disbelief the spike comes running over the dike and to the tank. i range the buck at forty two yards and my son releases the arrow which flies over the bucks back and sticks in the mud. the buck whirls around and stops at the top of the dike. the buck is now at 47 yards my son shoots again the buck hears the bow and dips to run off and the arrow hits him in the spine. the buck never took another step. my son and i celebrated as he was so excited about his first archery buck. i contacted my brothers that were in the same area hunting and told them of the downed buck. they agreed to come help my son take care of his deer so that i may continue to hunt. at 9 am they arrived we loaded the buck and i got back in the blind. 10 am i see another buck working his way to the tank but disappears. a doe follows him and i catch them 80 yards out in the trees but dont feel they are going to come in and lose sight of them both. i put my bow back down and begin to relax. 11 am the doe appears and is coming to the tank im sure the buck will follow. as i watch the doe i catch movement to my right. i see antlers and draw, the buck catches my movement and stops (thankfully) at 20 yards i shoot through a small window and connect. the buck whirls and i see the exit wound the shot was good. i then contact my brothers again and tell them they need to come back. they were very excited and came to help track the trail. the buck had only gone 60 yards and i was jumping up and down like my 12 year old son. we both got our first archery bucks on the same day mine took 20 years his took 2.
