kdog Report post Posted August 23, 2009 Another closer set-up to where the majority of the deer came in was already available and attempted, however even with wind right they knew something was up and wouldn't commit to coming all the way in. This farther location was producing some opportunities at <40yrd shots, so I relocated to it and eventually it paid off. This country is rough and the hike is rough, and your body doesn't usually want to do it 2 days in a row. Although a large rack is nice, I've always been more of a meat hunter. I've always said on my deer hunts that I am going to take the 1st buck I see, and up to this point I've never taken anything smaller than a 3x4. I always knew that spike was out there waiting for me. At least he will taste nice, and being my first Coues with a bow he is still a trophy to me.
