I passed on a spike at 15 yards, put my bow on the hook and grabbed the camcorder instead. I've been wanting to try those broadheads too.

Out of 15 bucks we saw sitting a waterhole, he was the only one coming within my comfort range of 40yrds. Obviously he wasn't the biggest, but he was my 1st Coues with a bow, so a trophy to me. I did have an October rifle tag in the same unit, however my wife and I will most-likely be in Russia adopting our son, so I wanted to take a deer during the early bow season. I took him at 30 yrds at approx 1:30 this afternoon. palivs2hunt was hunting with me. post-2578-1250923426_thumb.jpg

nice deer, but holy crap , your arrows are almost longer than the deer is  , that is so you can throw them like a spear if your bow breaks right? ha Congrats on some good meat and even more so on our upcoming adoption!! ag

Thanks so much for the broadheads. Hopefully I can put them to use for spring javelina. We had a great time on the Coues hunt yesterday. Had a few big bucks 90"-105" class, but the waterhole was big and those bucks wouldn't get closer than 70yrds from our set-up. Saw many other sizes from 90" on down to smaller spikes than the one I shot. Saw 30-40 doe and several fawns. We had deer coming in every 20-30 minutes, and never went more than 35 minutes without seeing deer. It is awesome to watch wildlife come into water and not know you are there. One of the fawns kept swimming around in the water eating the algae on the surface. It took us approx 45 minutes in the dark to hike into this waterhole from the nearest road going down hill, and approx 75 minutes to pack him out all uphill. Didn't want to have to make that trip again for a while if possible, and my body agrees today. My 2 boys have the early October youth hunt in this same unit, so I am excited for them. Thanks again!
