.270 Report post Posted August 18, 2009 i used to hunt with a bow a lot. shot a lotta stuff too. then my shoulder got bad and it just hurt too bad to pull a bow. probly kept me from bein' as famous as fred bear too. anyway, i put up with it for years and it finally got so bad i had to have medical attention. it was so bad the only thing they could do was a total joint replacement. shiny new titanium ball and teflon socket and a buncha kevlar cord to hold it all together. it is doing great and the dr said i could do about anything i wanted with it, except shoot a bow. i had a buncha bicep damage done by bone spurs and he fixed a lot of it with more kevlar, but said he wouldn't recomend shooting a bow because of how it pulls on the joint. anyway, me and my kid were talkin' and he said he had heard guys got a permit to use a crossbow in archery season just because they had shoulder pain and stuff, nothing even close to joint replacement. anybody know if that might be true? man i miss bowhuntin'. i have a buddy who was born with only one hand who uses a crossbow. c'mon, help an ol' guy out. i don't wanna hafta ax the game wardens. them guys hate me. BowNut Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Hey Lark Not 100% but from guys I have talked to it sounds like to me if the Doc said you cant draw a bow any longer that the wardens will let you use a crossbow. Not sure if there is paper work or something your Doc would need to fill out you would need to contact them for that. Sooner or later you will need to go to G&F I will see if I can get some more info for you. Unless someone else gets you more info I will ask around the bow shop. Str8Shot Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Lark ... It is summed up in R12-4-216 in the back of your regs .... Looks like with doctors orders stating at least 90 percent imparment in one arm you can obtain a permit for crossbow use during archery season
palivs2hnt Report post Posted August 18, 2009 Hey Lark. A permit can be obtained from Azgf and all you need is to have your doctor fill it out and sign it. I believe from there you take it to the g&f and they will issue you a special permit. I have filled a couple of them out for patients. Good luck!
cmc Report post Posted August 18, 2009 My father in law has a cross bow permit, has for some time. It was quite easy for him to obtain. He has a lot of metal parts in his body holding him together. All he did was take the paperwork to the Dr. and he filled it out as needed. Took to the G&F and was issued a crossbow permit. This year he drew an archery bull tag in a coveted unit. (It's his second archery elk tag and I think his first ever bull tag. Hopefully your doc isn't anti hunting or he might not assist on the paperwork. cmc
