vegasjeep Report post Posted August 17, 2009 There are lots of deer in 36a. Last year, we saw them way down in the flats behind Arivaca on the back side of that mountain range. SOme were within 100 feet of mule deer. Just watch out for all the "good Samaritans" trying to scare the deer away as they place free water and food for the illegals/

WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted August 31, 2009 Hendo, Usually those early hunts can be tough. You will find lots of deer, but it will be tough to find mature bucks after the two previous hunts. Look in the deepest darkest canyons, and hard to reach places. Get away from the roads and you will have success. All three mountain ranges have good population of Coues Deer. I've found a little bit of old time still hunting the canyons can be good for the early hunts when they become nocturnal and bed before daylight. Glassing is huge for your scouting trips before they get too much pressure. Glass shady sides of trees during day for bedded deer. Good luck
