Has anybody used

Recommended Posts

I'm trying my best to amasse every map I can get my hands on before the upcoming elk hunt.. Have my hands on several, but several more can't hurt..

These look pretty good, and clearly shows the unit boundary of whichever unit you are hunting. Looks like they are made and sold here in AZ as well. Does anyone else on here use them/ used them? Are they worth purchaing? Just trying to see if any of you guys have used one and liked it before I buy decide to buy one.

What about these hybrid maps (cross between arial photo with the topo lines superimposed on top of the photo map) from Huntin' Fool?? They look great, but you can't get them for the entire units.. They are only 8 milesX 8miles. I'm thinking of gettting a couple of these as well for the areas I think I am going to concentrate in. . Anyone use these and like them/ dislike them?

Hi,

I have a hunt map of unit 10. Honestly, I have found that for general information it is okay, but for unit 10, there is almost to much on the map. I have to use a magnifying glass to read some of the information. It does come on some great paper. Comparing it to other maps I have, and to scouting trips; It seems to be missing a lot of waterholes.

I have been using the on line version of topo explorer. It is a national geographic program that you download and then buy the 7.5 maps that you need. Each map costs $1 and you can download them to three computors. I have them on my home and laptop. You can then print what you need on their special paper or just normal paper.

Eastman's did a story on maps in the August bowhunting issue and they recommend www. otbpmaps.com, off the beaten path maps. You custom your own map with the information you want.

www.expertgps.com

You can download a free trial version.

All topop maps in the entire country that download instantly, as you need them and instantly switch from map to aerial photo.

Very easy to set up files with all your GPS points and just down load the ones you want to use into your GPS.

All I ever use.

I used the hunt maps for hunt in NM last year, since then I purchased the national geographic software. I feel that the Nat. Geo software comibined with the garmin topo has provided me just as much as the Huntmap. The nat geo software has a ton of info on it, more water then the garmin topo as well as the Huntmap. The only advantage that the Huntmap can provide from time to time is private property, but if you have the BLM maps you'll have that.

What I've found very useful, is to the make way points on the nat geo software, load those to my gps, and then I'll print off sections of the Nat geo that I'm interested in. I'll put those in a ziplock bag, and make them up with notes and commentary on certain areas.

Scottyboy I found the best is Google Earth and add the layers-lower left hand side- and then I got a E-Trex with a Mountain South flash card to scout my unit 27 archery bull hunt -then go scoutin- found a-lot and more to look for- the software on the E-Trex did not let me down.I have the Apache-Sitgreaves forest map to go along, but it is just a start. BTW I printed pix from google earth on National Geographic Adventure Paper-good stuff-good luck on ur hunts

I got one a long time ago from mytopo and it has served me well, very durable and easy to read.

and for online use, it is hard to beat NASA World Wind (free program way more powerful than Google earth)
