Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery Proposal for Site Selection in Sonora, Mexico Elicits Concern from Commission At the August 7 meeting the Commission also discussed the controversial proposal by the Mexican government to locate their wolf recovery area on the Sonora/U.S. border. While the U.S. Fish & Wildlife has been in dialogue with Mexico for a couple of years on the siting of its wolf recovery area, the Agency says the selection of the Sonora site comes as a surprise. Ironically, the site is said to be that of a U.S. Rancher who also owns land north of the border. The Commission, while reaffriming its support for reintroduction of the wolf in Mexico had a substantial list of questions that must be addressed prior to them taking a position, pro or con, on the location. The Department was directed to delve into the matter and to provide answers at the September Commission meeting. Not surprising, the Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility were all pushing for the Commission to support the proposed site even though the issue had no been vetted by the Department and significant questions have not been answered. .270 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 only thing positive to say about it is that at least it is traditional mexican gray wolf country. i was told that the reason they didn't try it in the south was because there was so much private land and they couldn't get the control they wanted. so they put them in the gila wilderness and the blue, where there never were very many to start with. one thing that may come from it is better border enforcement. they might actually to try to keep the illegals out of wherever the area is so these pen raised dogs can survive. like all gov't programs, this too will is destined to be a failure. in fact, like all gov't programs, it is a faillure before it even starts. they'll never reach a sustainable population, which they don't want to do because then they lose their control. it will just be another hardship on the residents trying to scratch out a living there. as long as the gov't is willing to pump money into it, which is forever, the program will go on, but it has failed before it even starts, because they do not have even one pure wolf in the program, the program is administered by stupid people who are willing to perpetuate a lie to start with, they don't have any of the wolf/dog crosses that are immune to disease like wild wolves are, and they don't have any of the wolf/dog crosses that can make a living on their own. just another farce that is designed to pry folks off the land and put it more and more into federal control. Good luck and the first time a pack tears up a ranchers working dogs or his cattle we will all be talking about it more! Government and anything is a bad mix if'n ya ask me!
