Elk Bugle

Just wondering when the elk start bugling and how late they usually bugle. I have a tag for a limited opportunity hunt that starts in Oct. I figure getting out early and listening for them might be a good scouting plan.

With the weather were having you just might get lucky and the elkwill still be talking in oct that would be a bonus for you especially on L.O tag,good luck.

I had an Oct 15 cow tag a few years ago. The elk were still bugling early in the mornings.

You might go out scouting in middle to late Sept to listen/see where the bulls are when they are more vocal. Does your hunt start Oct 2 or 16?

I had em bugling in late Nov on my cow hunt last year.

I helped a friend out in 2005 on an Oct L/O hunt in 22 matazal hunt for any elk. We called in several nice bulls, and they were still responding to cow calls when he killed a nice 6x7 on Oct 23.

I always thought mid September or so. At least thats when I always went out to listen, and I plan to head out this year around that time too for some video and photos.

They are already talking a bit, barks, chuckles etc. out by my place. Nothing too dramatic though. I have heard them bugle on Thanksgiving under the rim.

I have heard them rippin on junior cow hunts first week of October, and I know they usually talk until the end of the month, but not every day.

I have the Oct. 16 - Dec. 13 L.O. hunt in 15,17, 18, 19, 20. Thinking of checking out 19B and 18A first and then going from there. I have a cow tag so I am willing to share notes with anyone - I am sure I will see all the big bulls...
