lionhunter Report post Posted August 9, 2009 I just picked up a 270 WSM as a back-up for 300WSM, which is a back- up for my 300 Win. But, the more I study about the 270WSM the more I like it..... I have an Antelope tag in NM in two weeks. I am going to reload 130 or 140gr. bullets for the 270 short. Any ideas about loads?????? Anybody shooting one? Any/ all input would be appreciated. Thanks, Whitey
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 10, 2009 Well, my friend you have just bought about the best western cartridge there is... In my opinion. My load has always been 63-64.5 of H4831SC with a 140 NAB and a F215 Gold Medal Match primer. My gun is built on a long action so I can seat the bullets way out there. lionhunter Report post Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks, that gives me a good place to start. I can't wait to shoot it and compare to some others I have... thanks again Whitey
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 11, 2009 Believe me, H4831sc and the 140 NAB and the 215 GMM will make you want to shoot no other gun. My best with that load is .138 at 100 yards.
tomgobbler Report post Posted August 11, 2009 i also love the gun! i have 3, and my brother has 1, have shot coues deer, elk, and antelope with it. him and i went to wyoming last year goat hunting and wanted to have a contest on shooting one the farthest, so we did lots of practicing and so forth and went out, and he shot a buck at 350, so i shot one at 445, so then he shot his doe at 643, knocked it on its butt...... then i shot my doe with my muzzle loader at 245, so he won the long range contest, but they are great guns and mine shoots really tight as well, i have the winchester model 70's..... good luck with it and have fun! tommy
lionhunter Report post Posted August 12, 2009 sounds good... I have a 300 WSM, and a 300 Win that will be VERY hard to beat, but I am willing to give it a try. I am going to shoot on Sunday out to 500. I will let you know how it compares. Or should I say, if you see it for sale on Monday you know why............ TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted August 12, 2009 I've got a Tikka .270 WSM that I love as well. Took my antelope in NM at 430 yds. 130 grn. 1/4" groups at 100 yds.
W.O.T Report post Posted December 10, 2009 Whitey... any follow up on the load results? you try bergers yet?
luvdemcoues Report post Posted December 10, 2009 I also shoot the 270 wsm in the tikka t3 lite. I shoot the 140 nab out of it as well. I really like how it shoots. I am going to start reloading and am thinking about trying the Barnes tipped triple shock x bullet in the 130 grain. Has anyone tried those out in this caliber? CouseforLife Report post Posted December 10, 2009 I have developed about 10 loads for my 270WSM so far. I have loads for 130 Scirrocco, 140 A fram, 140 NAB, 140 Sierra GK, 140 NP, and 150 NP. In all my Loads I use either Reloader 19 or R-22. My gun likes the buillet seated just a hair off the lands and near max loads. These are the only bullets I have expiremented with thus far. lionhunter Report post Posted December 17, 2009 WOT, the best load I came up with is as follows: 64 gr. of IMR 4350 behind 130gr. NAB, I used the Win mag primer and Win brass. I am consistantly getting 3340 fps and the groups at 1,2,3,4, and 5 are better than I can usually shoot. To say that I am impressed with this cal. is an understatement. I bought the rifle as a back up, and it is the one I took on my deer hunt this year. Good luck. Whitey
luvdemcoues Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Has anybody tried the Barnes Tipped Triple shock in the 110 grain with the 270 WSM? I am thinking about these or the 130 grain TTSX.
scoutm Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Has anybody tried the Barnes Tipped Triple shock in the 110 grain with the 270 WSM? I am thinking about these or the 130 grain TTSX. My 270 WSM didn't like the 110 TTSX too much but it doesn't like much of anything. My 270 win loves them. Shooting 3300 FT/Sec and Sub MOA.
luvdemcoues Report post Posted March 5, 2010 Thought I would revived this thread (and maybe even hi jack it)... I was finally able to track down some Remington LR Mag primers today. I haven't built a load yet but thought I would ask some questions of people a lot more knowledgeable than myself. I have 2 different powders... RL 22 and H4831sc. Also 2 different primers... CCI LR and the Remington LR Mag primers. I will be trying to get the Berger 140 grains to shoot right. Any suggestions on the Mag primers vs. the CCI primers? I am using Winchester brass for some loads and Federal brass for others if that makes a difference. Thanks, Josh
Coues24A Report post Posted March 8, 2010 Try Reloader 17. My 300WSM loves it. I use 67.5gr and 155gr Bergers, getting 3250fps one inch groups. Could use 69gr and get over 3300fps, but doesnt group as well.
