hoghntr Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Although I'm not sure it ever got it's official treatment in the Rules or ever got changed in the regs, you are allowed to carry a defensive handgun while archery hunting in AZ. The Department issued an Enforcement Directive at the Casa Grande Commission meeting about 3 years ago, stating such. Again, if you are so inclined, you can go back to Commission Meeting minutes and get the word for word, but the bottom line is I personally guarantee that no Game and Fish Officer in this state is going to cite you for carrying a defensive piece while you're archery hunting. Good Luck, Nick so do those of us who were ticketed 15 years ago after G&F snuck in their new law (then) for carrying pistols(weapon) in any unit during general javelina or elk hunt unless you had tag. except shotgun shooting shot whith active hunt going on in same area where shotgun was needed. so, to break it down. if your kid had a tag and you were carrying sidearm you got ticket. if you were hunting yotes in unit whith general pig or elk going on and you did not have a tag for one of those hunts, you got a ticket. AND IF YOU SHOT YOUR PIG AND HAD LAID PIG, AND RIFLE YOU SHOT IT WITH DOWN, YET STAYED ON THE MTN. TO SEE IF FRIENDS HARVESTED AND WALKED DOWN BEING THE ONLY HUNTER WHO TAGGED OUT BUT WERE STILL WEARING PISTOL YOU GOT A TICKET FOR "IN PURSUIT OF GAME IN EXCESS OF BAG LIMIT" he sat in wash below watching with binocs why yes it was lame to pay that stupid ticket, yes it was. i went to court with 3 witnesses only to walk in and find G&F officer having coffee with judge in chambers. i through my wallet on desk and when asked what it was for, i replied it looks like you have made your decisions so take what i owe you!! They sort of even up the hunting "scale" if you will and make you apprecaite more what hunting and being hunted is like!
