Sidearm Question

Recommended Posts

During archery season in AZ, is it legal to carry a sidearm? I've read that you can technically carry since varmit season goes year round, but wanted to make sure.

-Thanks

You may carry a non-hunting style sidearm for protection.

Barrel length of less than 6", non-scoped and

any type of electronic device.

I carry a copy of that rule in my wallet.

Thanks. I'll be carrying a S&W .357, with 5" barrell, so I should be good (from a legal standpoint) right?

Yes, until you are put in a position where you must use it to protect yourself. At that point, the illegal immigrant, drug trafficker or other criminal will possibly have more rights than you. With that being said, I hope you are never put in a situation where you need to use your weapon.

Best to you, be safe and remember that Janet Napolitano is head of Homeland Security, so you have no need to worry.

I have not had any problem in 34 in the past. Make the first couple shots count. If you need the extra mag that could be taken as excessive force not that you can not hit the broad side of a barn with a hand gun like me!!!

I'm with Bowsniper on this one! That looks like the side arm of choice for the border units.

If anything else fails, you are in camo, and have a bow. I say you pop the sucker with a blunt tipped arrow first. :P

that is perfect amigo . . . . especially when a lion or bear starts chomping on your leg!

I was scouting my deer herd last weekend and chased three bears up a tree, scared me to living death! I HATE bears!

I am packin an xd in 45 with three mags just to be safe!

Good luck boys.

Although I'm not sure it ever got it's official treatment in the Rules or ever got changed in the regs, you are allowed to carry a defensive handgun while archery hunting in AZ. The Department issued an Enforcement Directive at the Casa Grande Commission meeting about 3 years ago, stating such.

Again, if you are so inclined, you can go back to Commission Meeting minutes and get the word for word, but the bottom line is I personally guarantee that no Game and Fish Officer in this state is going to cite you for carrying a defensive piece while you're archery hunting.

Good Luck,

Nick
