Ill be honest... it take some you know what to hunt down there. i have hunted 36b alot. contact bp and ask for there number they give it out. gps and a phone call no problems.... being a cop in phoenix, i always take my handgun and both pairs of handcuffs. and when i see some illegalness going on both me and my dad who is also a cop go to work.

Now i dont recommend doing that. lol.. i find it fun. but i do recommend carry a handgun and and some extra mags. and just be prepared.

they will most likely leave you alone if you do the same. im just tired of this **** coming into our state.

It is very rare that I discuss my occupation on the internet, but this subject hits VERY close to home. I am a BP agent that works in the areas of concern. I will be the first to say that while it is extremely unlikely that you will be bothered by illegals or drug mules, you do not know for sure. Remember, the people that are going through the areas want to do so as fast as possble without being noticed. I personally never venture into unpopulated areas without a pistol, however I also don't go into Phoenix without my pistol (which I consider just as dangerous)

If you do encounter the smugglers or the illegals note the area (GPS is great) and if you have cell phone service call 1-877-USBP-HELP. The faster you call, the better. This is the general number, if you know the station that is assigned to the area you are hunting, I would suggest obtaining the number to that station so you can call that station direct. If you call the station direct, the info will be sent to the agents faster and more accurate. If you call the central number things tend to get askew. The more people it has to go through before it gets to the field, the less accurate the info is. Below is a link to all of the stations in Tucson Sector.

If you do see aliens or smugglers, do not approach them. If you are hidden, (glassing, blind etc..) just let them pass by.

The biggest impact that the smugglers and illegals have on the area is the trash. I (as well as many members on this site) can go to places several acres in size that are knee deep in garbage. The deer populations have grown more scarce and the bear populations have increased with the increase in trash to eat. That being said, I do make the aliens pick up their garbage when I find them in one of those areas, however due to the sheer numbers it is impossible to keep up. I wish that we were allowed to have chaingangs of aliens in the mountains picking up garbage, but that idea is not popular with the heads of DHS and I am sure the ACLU would have objections <_< .

I would not let the situation deter anyone from hunting or doing anything else in the area, just use caution. On the plus side, while I do like to sit on ridges glassing for illegals, I tend to (accidently) see deer. I have seen a few nice ones this year so all hope is not lost.

Some people are just lucky, I have been shot at, chased, and had stuff in my camp stolen twice by illegals. Also last year ran into 2 differnt people who had their camps burglarized.

Oh boy!

Of course, people who abandon infants to the Arizona wilds, rape women and teenager girls, sell mind-altering crap and kill cops in their own country will kill you DEAD and rape you, if they choose, if they can do it and still get away with making money. Right now, I have a body count of 5 near my Foothills abode attributable to gang & gun violence. One citizen, a cop who lived, and some others, illegals, "hard workers" . I took a long walk this summer and when crossing the Pedro, I took out the game loads from my wheel gun and loaded the hard-hitting stuff. Quite a sober momment, for I love butterflies, cottonwoods and people, but any one who isn't a little cautious is a moron.

This sucks, for I love all humans. However, I love them in order, from family to country.

Lock and load South of the Border; G. Giffords, et al, would barlely raise an eyebrow at your death or dissapearence. ALL the rest of the conversation is ad-hoc personal opinion; the border sees death and should you hunt there, follow the advice of the cautious on this site.

A personal aside: isn't this a sovereign nation?

Bradne, that you for your service and the info. When I started this topic I had no idea Id get this big of a response.I am going to hunt down south(35B)ut I am going to be conservative in my approach ,and use caution.I am fairly good in the woods and have been passed by by my guide budddies many times who had no idea i was there. This is our turf ,this is our state(no disrespect out of staters) and I will not be intimidated by the illegal activity going on.As stated in another reply you would have to be a moron not to believe there is some danger and act accordingly. That being said God bless the USA and all of you fellow brothers and sisters of the hunting community.I will not bow down.Good luck to all who drew ,Steve
