joeybari Report post Posted July 27, 2009 Anyone ever used calles during the 27 Nov-3 Dec Coues hunt . This is my first time getting this hunt. I have gotten the rut hunt two times and the oct hunt many times always using the glassing method with success. nlacost Report post Posted July 27, 2009 Both rattling and calling are effective.The key is to know when and how subtle or crazy to get.Start out light and see what happens..then get crazy and sit back,grunting is definitely a close quarters deal and sometimes they dont even give a call a second thought..try experimenting but I like a Quaker Boy grunt call...they seem to have that perfect tone.Just my 2 cents.. wbyfireman Report post Posted July 27, 2009 I had this hunt last year in unit 33. Unknown about using calls, however the deer did not even seem close to being in the rut. Does were with does and the bucks were..... well.... pushed back into the sticks. There is just way to many hunts in 33. I had a December tag in unit 33 the year before and it was amazing!!! bucks were running everywhere. what a difference a couple weeks makes. azcoues Report post Posted July 27, 2009 too far south for any of that stuff to eefectively work,HECK I LIVE IN CAMP VERDE AND DREW THE DEC11-31 AND they dont even start getting ancy until about the 20th game and fish threw that date out there to make it enticing to make hunters think being that close to the rut they would have a different perspective and could have a true rut hunt ,heck the only deer ruttin at that time is kaibab muleys.
