tjhunt2 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks for taking us along on your buffalo hunt of a lifetime. You have a fine animal and I know how good the meat is because I was fortunate to harvest one back in 1976. My hunt was nowhere near as exciting or challenging as yours. Thanks for sharing and congratulations! TJ
azhuntnut Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Blake, Sounds like you had a good time, and a hard hunt. Those are the ones you always remember. That would have been cool if you were able to shoot him with your bow. David
Stray Horse Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Very nice. I like the meat better than elk.
BML Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Speaking of meat: This is one hind quarter that took up my entire kitchen counter! Here are just two of the three main slabs of meat from that hind. It took my brother and I 6 full hours of cutting and grinding and I still had an hour or so left of grinding and packing after that to get it all done. I had never tried to butcher my own animal before and now that I started with a buffalo, I am pretty sure I can do any animal!
Snapshot Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Mmmmmmmmm, buffalo burgers! Way to go, on what sounds like a great hunt. Hope you have a great big freezer!
BML Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Brent, We actually took a little break about half way through and grilled up a couple buffalo burgers. We just couldn't wait to try them out and they were fantastic! My freezer is absolutely jam packed full of meat. I still have antelope meat from the two bucks I killed last year and now all that buffalo meat. I even had to move all the other stuff into the kitchen freezer so now my chest freezer just full of just game meat. I have an archery bull tag and a deer tag still this year. If I am lucky enough to fill those tags, I am going to have to buy another freezer!
krp Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Blake, congrats. Great story, would have been neat to have gotten one with a bow. Butchering your own animals brings much satisfaction, just play dumb though when your friends ask if you will do theirs. Kent
