mounting the cam in the desert

Recommended Posts

while everyone is waiting for the draw results, thought I'd ask a quick question....

I just picked up a couple cams, Moultrie D40s... whats the best way to hook them up out here in the desert? strap the badboy to a saguaro? or prop up against a rock? thanks in advance

I strapped mine last dec on a large saguaro and got some great pics of some desert mulies. Wear some leather gloves when strapping it.

did you use the bungee cords that come with it or are there better "straps" to get somewhere?

I build posts that I zip tie my cameras to. I lock the camera to the post from the back plate that I weld to the post, and if its a spot I use all the time, a shovel, some quick cement mix, water from the catchment and make it a perm. location. Some spots I build mounds of rock, stick the post in and hope for the best.

Mesquite trees can make a nice mount if you are down in a creek bottom. A bear box with lag bolts and Python lock works real well. Bungees will stretch, fade and rot in the hot desert climate. Good luck-!
