bustedknuckleinc Report post Posted July 21, 2009 If my elk hunt comes down to one of the last two days(school/Work) I will need to hire a butcher. I will be hunting in unit 27 and will be headed towards Tucson if I will be getting A mount. If I will not be getting it mounted I will be headed towards Pheonix. I have had familey members take there elk in and are not happy with how much meat they get back . Does anybody know one that they are really happy with AKA one that wont waste or stuff his freezer with backstraps . Thanks.

308Nut Report post Posted July 22, 2009 I dont know if they are still there or if they are if they are still decent but I used Mcagnos meats for years and never had a single complaint. Also, It doesnt matter what butcher I use, the backstraps AND tenderlions ALWAYS go home with me. I can cut those up easy enough any way.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted July 22, 2009 You could always cut it up yourself. With the money you would give a butcher, you can get a grinder for the burger. I figure and elk takes me 12 hours of work. Doug~RR

azcoues Report post Posted July 22, 2009 I once took my elk to southwest processing at a take in site at forest lakes and ask him to take out my backs and tenderloins and he said no we will do that for you at the time of cut up at the plant in queen creek and i said no i want to eat them not you guys and he got a smirk on his face ,so i cut them out in front of him and took them with me.N ow i just cut my own its just better all the way around.ON my hunts i just stay in the camp site an extra couple days and cut grind and vacuum seal that way when i get home just throw in freezer and done. azpackhorse Report post Posted July 22, 2009 Another vote for WGP, I've been taking my critters there for years and have always been satisfied. He makes some awesome sausage out of my Javelina.
Couzer Report post Posted July 22, 2009 If you want to go to springerville i have used Single Tree Processing. He did a good job on my turkey. I believe he is kinda new up here, from Queen Creek and a honest guy.

catclaw Report post Posted July 22, 2009 I have used the guys on Cloud road in QC ( I think it's Southwestern) and they have done an excellent job. They make some really nice pepperoni sticks too. I have used the one in Springerville across from McDonalds and they suck big time. Sorry!
