Kilimanjaro Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Thanks guys.. I have dreamed of owning and hunting with one of these great guns since I was old enough to read the greats from yesteryear such as Ruark, Hemmingway, Capstick, etc.. With the current market, there are some great deals floating around out there and I just couldn't pass this one up. Casey, if you buy the ammo, you're more than welcome to take him coyote plinking!! RR, he prefers a healthy, albiet large diet of 500 grain solids or 500 grain woodleigh softs. And yeah, he kicks, but it's more of a hard "push".. He weighs 10 1/2 lbs, so that tames alot of the recoil. Hope to share alot of great hunts using this great gun with ya'll over the coming seasons!
The Claw Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Scott, Beauty. After experiencing the plains game last month I now have a desire to tote one of those around through the thick stuff for my next African adventure. It is a beauty! You'll have to give me a full report on the recoil difference on and off your Claw. We've shot 50 cals a bunch but the Fifties are so heavy its no big deal. That Nitro will be a good test. Now, forget about Africa for a couple months and focus on finding that monster Muzzy bull!
Gr8 White Jr Report post Posted July 18, 2009 What a bueat! Congrats on your new addition! Casey, if you smack a coyote with it, you have to get in on video! -Tracy
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Tracy, be my camera man. I have the perfect spot picked out. Has a 75% success ratio, and most shots have been within 50 yards. Scott, I have the press, you get the dies etc and we will feed him plenty of plinking ammo.
Snapshot Report post Posted July 19, 2009 Just for comparison, A .300 Winchester Mag shooting a 180 grain round has a recoil energy rating of 25.9 ft/lbs A .470 Nitro Express Shooting 500 grain round has a recoil energy rating of 69.3 ft/lbs The .470 has almost 3 times the recoil energy of the .300 mag. Ouch!
