DutchmanAZ Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Well since I go to the woods weekly scouting I have had 9 tickets in 7 months. So far I have won 3 traffice stop court cases and 3 are pending a court date. 3 are photo radar. The other day my niece answered the door and they served her she was 14. Well I threw it in the trash. I have had many photo radar tickets (30 plus) and never once have had to pay anything. If they serve you, you can trash it or on the back of the ticket, say it wasnt you and you cant identify the driver and send it in. Most times they will send it back in the mail and say this has been dimissed. I did have one time when they said it appeared to be me and they set a court date, I showed up and they said this is you in the pic and I said no its not and they said yes it is and I said Nope. They then dismissed it!! Good Luck!!Happy Hunting!! I'd be careful as it is legal to serve notice to someone 14 and older. Here's a link to check to see the status of the ticket: http://apps.supremecourt.az.gov/publicaccess/ Also a lot of good information here - http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-02-08/news/gotcha/ If you were considered served by the process server, the courts can and have suspended driver's licenses to unsuspecting folks who found out the hard way. The first link will let you know if the ticket has moved forward.
Redman Report post Posted July 19, 2009 LIKE MANY HAVE SAID PRIOR, THROW IT IN THE TRASH!!!! You will have to be legally served. The more people who throw them in the trash, the faster these darn cameras will be removed. I have drove over 60K miles in a little over a year and a half in Arizona (mostly in the sh*t hole of Phoenix). All these cameras do is cause people to speed and slam on thier brakes.....speed and slam on thier brakes..... The cameras do not deter or change a person's driving habits...they make them worse. catclaw Report post Posted July 19, 2009 Ditto that! I still don't trust the cameras and in Phx- the speed fluctuates form 55-65 and back. They always seem to put the cameras where it drops down to 55. They need to leave the speed limits alone and all the same so folks aren't constantly slowing and speeding up. KGAINES Report post Posted July 19, 2009 Another option is to drive 15+ over the speed limit, they have said they will not use photo radar evidence in a criminal speeding case. Speed limits change a lot on the roads and drivers don't always see them, more often than not it is the driver in front of you that proceeds at 65 where the speed limit is 75 and will not move over and allow you by creating a back up, and on the one lanes it is worse, 65 speed limit 55 mile per hour car, you hit 70 to 75 to pass and then boom you get popped, most officers wouldn't pull you over, but a camera is going to snap a picture. I speed every single day, if I am looked at as a criminal in the same sense as a thief or a murderer then there are some stupid people out there. Would you rather have a drunk driver running 50 in a 55 or a sober person running 65 in the 55, I myself would trust the speeder more, but that camera isn't going to catch the drunk, he could be swerving lane to lane, but hey he is immune to the camera laws. Maybe they will start watching the streaming video and writing citations that way for anything they can pick up from the video. Maybe once Napolitano gets the chips put in the licenses and ID cards they can just track speeds with satellites, if they deem you are speeding you will get a ticket. For those that like photo radar the license thing should be a welcome site to them that way all these speeders can be tracked, maybe they should just implant eveyone at birth with a microchip to make absolutely sure where we are and what we are doing at all times, that way everything can be monitored on everyone. cars should be equipped with sensors that send out a signal when speeds that exceed the legal limit are reached and that car will shut down until an officer can arrive and write them a ticket and send the proper code to start the car back up, this crap can go to extremes, and it starts with the dang cameras. Just so you know these cameras are machines and machines can make mistakes just like humans, my ticket was dropped because I asked if a camera could pick up a baseball, they didn't know, they said it would only pick up large metal objects, then they all started talking, the officer told the judge they didn't have any evidence against me, before I asked them the same question under oath. When I passed the camera and got my ticket I was pointing it out to my kids and explaining what it does, I rechecked my speed several times as I approached it, the posted speed was 25, I was right at that speed, when the camera flashed we thought it was hilarious, when I got a ticket for doing 42 in a 25 I was pissed, I had to make two seperate trips to prescott valley, and then my case was dismissed, I had to pay the server fee of 26 dollars, but it was worth it to see justice served and I will be damned if I will plead guilty to something I did not do. So at this point I say screw the cameras and the people who support them.
daryl_s Report post Posted July 20, 2009 Follow the speed limit signs and there won't be a problem. That would be to easy though. What happens when you are driving down the freeway going the speed limit minding your own business and it snaps your picture??? How do you fight it if you get a ticket in the mail saying you were speeding???? Yesterday at about 6:30 AM I was driving westbound on the 60 just east of Ellsworth going 67 mph with my cruise control on. There were no other cars around me and the Highway Patrol Ford Escape on the side of the freeway snaps my picture. I know my speedometer is working correctly and the speed limit there is 65. If I get a ticket in the mail saying I was going at least 11 mph over how could I prove I was only going 67???? I hate these cameras. Money is the only reason they are there. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with safety like they try to make you believe.
Redman Report post Posted July 20, 2009 Follow the speed limit signs and there won't be a problem. That would be to easy though. Why are there more "radar photo enforced" signs posted than speed limit signs? Why are there more "radar photo enforced" signs on the left hand side of a 6 or 8 lane freeway? Its hard to even find a speed limit sign on the left side of the freeway, try adding taffic ....its really not that "easy"....not sure how much you drive, but I can tell you almost every mobile van is a setup where speed limits change. Arizona Griz Report post Posted July 20, 2009 What happens when you are driving down the freeway going the speed limit minding your own business and it snaps your picture??? You got a point. not sure how much you drive, but I can tell you almost every mobile van is a setup where speed limits change. Redman I drive all over the state. I have yet to have my "picture" taken but then again I drive the speed limit. If it happens one day I am sure not going to ignore. I drive the speed limit and I don't care what the traffic speed is. If I can move over to the right to let the faster traffic go by I will. It seems like the ADOT mobile cameras give you plenty of notice with the one or two signs that are put up. I will say that some of the rural highways don't have anough speed limit signs so it is hard to guess the speed limit.

Speed limits change a lot on the roads and drivers don't always see them Criminal speed starts at 21 mile over the speed limit. Also, there is no obligation to right you a "criminal" speeding ticket just because you were going 21 over. I wrote hundreds if not thousands of citations over the years using a civil traffic statute when I could have used a criminal statute. There was no difference in the fine and the burden of proof was much higher! The only advantage was that if someone failed to appear, they could conceivably have a warrant and technically, they weren't supposed to be able to go to traffic school for criminal speed. I have gone both ways but generally wrote civil up to about 30 over. Like I said, wear a mask.
az4life Report post Posted July 20, 2009 You guys are all forgetting, the cameras are putting America to work. They support all the camera makers, the installers, the court personnel, the judges the officers, the gimmick salesman who sell radar detectors, special license place covers, etc, the consultants, Lawyahs, and so on. Increased numbers of these cameras are part of the nanny state plan. Big Bother, Mother or that wacko uncle Barack, they all are just taking care of this country so we don't go down the tubes like Russia did..

Kilimanjaro Report post Posted July 20, 2009 And here we go with the "Dad" lecture about how we should all be driving.. Have ya been down the 10 between PHX and Tucson as of late? How about the 101 or 202 in PHX? If you are doing 80, you'll get run over from behind!! Please... spare me the lecture of how we should all be driving.. You know as well as we all do that 90% of the drivers out there are speeding, if only a few MPH over the posted.. And those who aren't are generally the ones causing the delays and backup by slowing traffic down, generally in the lanes they shouldn't be in.. I know, I've ridden with my Grandpa in Dallas traffic before. I was more nervous than if we had been doing 85-90 (AKA going with the flow of traffic).
