CouesKilla Report post Posted July 15, 2009 Has anyone scrolled through the pictures at the azgfd website that hunters have sent in? There is a picture of a guy who shot a nice 5x6 velvet bull on July 4th. A friend of mine bought that tag and we went out on Jan 1st (south of I-40 between Holbrook and Winslow). I swear we were chasing around sign from two elk the entire trip, and ended up seeing them run out of the unit before shooting light on our last day. I'm wondering if this guy found the end of the rainbow, or if one puts in enough time there are some decent bulls to be had on this tag??????
buglethemin Report post Posted July 15, 2009 I think that guy in the photo shot the bull on a depredation hunt in unit 1, round valley, only 10 hunters got the call from AZGF for that area, unless there is a different photo
Lance Report post Posted July 20, 2009 May be one of the Round Vally bulls. There have been several of them lately. But some out of the Verdy Lately too. We have hunted/guided several of those OTC elk tags. 9 tags to be exact, and are blessed to still have 100% kill success. 6 bulls and 3 cows. Each area that is open has its little honey holes, and they can change from year to year, or month to month. But there are elk to be had if there is a lot of scouting and luck involved. That said, Anyone want to go kill an OCT elk this year? I know of a few more that I would love to go harvest! Lance

It's got to be the same photo (velvet bull shot on July 4th). I think I do remember reading about some hunt you could apply for and had to wait for a call from azgfd before you could go.
