What Mr. Jackson needs to understand is that the vast majority of hunters supported this bill and 95% of all the hunters and fisherman in this country do not ever hunt outside of their own state.

Desert Bull: I think we'd probably find zero support for Jackson's side from anyone who lives in a western state with lots of public land; however, we are vastly outnumbered by hunters in states that do not. I've not seen any figures but I suspect there are a lot more than 5% of America's 14 million hunters who cross state lines to hunt. I do know if I lived in Louisiana, as Jackson does, or in Texas, Florida, Ohio, Virginia and lots of other states I would fly West and North every year rather than pay what it costs to lease a place to hunt.

Yes, there are appx 14 million hunters in the country, but a big % of them are small game, waterfowl, and bird hunters only. Not too many of them are going to come out west to hunt from the east coat, south or even midwest. I guess I should ahve clarified myself when I said 95%. I meant 95% of big game hunters.

We probably should look at some USFWS numbers, but it was my opinion that deer hunters made up the biggest percentage of the nation's 14 millon hunters, apparently because whitetail herds are exploding everywhere except in the Southwest.
