4Falls Report post Posted July 11, 2009 Just fishing for opinions on Slick trick, Wac'em, Sonic or Phat Head broadheads....
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted July 11, 2009 Jeff, I don't have any imput for you on those, but the next fixed blade broadhead that I intend to try is the NAP Razor Cap.... I like the long desisgn, and personally have had better down range accuracy from longer ferrelled (sp) broadheads. Plus, I am liking the cut on impact approach. Best of luck on the search and let us know what you decide on. Later!
elkaholic Report post Posted July 11, 2009 hello - i went with the razor tricks this time around - i've been shooting out to 40 and they fly like darts - just like CNS i like the idea of the razor tip cutting edge - to be honest i looked into them after i seen they had a very good penatration cutting tip - from the broadhead penatration tests i posted in jan . they were like 0.7 lbs - in my opinion the test showed the tip can make a big difference - Gary
DesertBull Report post Posted July 11, 2009 If a COC type head hits square on a rib, do you think the tip will fold over or will it just cut through or slip around the bone?? No doubt they probably penetrate better, but the chisel tip seems a little more rugged with regards to bone. I like the slick tricks myself and have been thinking about trying some of the razortricks too.
300 wsm Report post Posted July 11, 2009 I love the Slicktricks, and Phatheads both. I shoot both, and they both fly good for me. Just like my field points. I like the Phathead a little better cause it is a cut on contact, and super super tough.
gonhntn Report post Posted July 11, 2009 Grimreapers.... userfriendly, tri-car tip, fly like fieldtips and huge cutting diameter. Give them a try. Gonhntn
4Falls Report post Posted July 11, 2009 Keep the opinions coming... I'll use this plus my own research to narrow my choices to two then see which my rig shoots best.
John O Report post Posted July 12, 2009 I would encourage you to look at the G5 Montec . I had a complete pass through on a whitetail last year, like it wasn't even standing there. Flies perfect with my field tips out to 70 yards.
tcharchery Report post Posted July 12, 2009 I have had good luck with the Sonics. Two cow elk with no problems. Took out ribs on both and the heads showed no damage. Only problem was there was not much of a blood trail, although both animals went just 60 yards. Been looking for a better head though and I have the new Terminal locks on order. I'll let you know after the elk hunt how they do. Or with any luck at all, after the early archery deer hunt. Eddie
Coach Report post Posted July 12, 2009 +1 for the Slick Tricks. Very solid head, and they always fly well. I've never seen one that doesn't fly true, and if you look at the steel construction and razor sharp blades, you'll see that they are built extremely well. I haven't shot the Wac'Ems, but I have shot the knock-offs, (G5 Stingers and other Bass-Pro and Cabela's Copperhead look-a-likes) and there is a reason they are copied so often. They, too are a great head. I've shot a TON of broadheads and the ones that all seem to group together for me are G5 Montecs (too soft in my opinion and hard to get razor sharp), Slick Tricks (my favorite), Magnus Stingers, and G5 Strikers (a wac'em clone). All good heads, but when I get ready to hunt, I fill my quiver with the Slick Tricks. They have a solid steel ferrule and the Solingen blades come razor sharp and do thier job. That said, any of the BH's above plus the Shuttle T's (no first hand experience but I know guys who have had great success with them) will do the job. Just tune your bow well, and practice with the heads you'll hunt with and they will slice and dice. Get one that you can resharpen or replace the blades easily and forget about field points for the last 4 - 6 weeks before your hunt. Shoot only those broadheads, and you'll see which ones maintain accuracy out of your setup.
nighthawk Report post Posted July 12, 2009 4 blade muzzy... went threw a shoulder and broke some ribs on a pig at 60yrds and still blew out.. bow shoots 280fps
Coues79 Report post Posted July 12, 2009 Phat heads are some of the thickest and toughest metal for Cut on Contact broadheads that are on the market. If you were interested in toughness of a head, I don't think you can beat them. Supposed to (just like a lot of claims) fly just like a field point. I have purchased a few packs and have yet to fly them on my arrows. Time will tell how they fly.
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted July 12, 2009 I finally setteled on the Wac-ems after shooting several heads this year. I thought they were better built than the Strikers, and I got them for $19.99. So far they shoot great, and seem to hold up well. Slick Tricks were a close second, but I like the COC tip on the Wac-ems.

GRAYLIGHT Report post Posted July 13, 2009 I know there are as many opinions out there as there are broadheads... For what it's worth, Innerloc's are tough and shoot straight!
