Archery Coues Deer Hunt on Ft Huachuca this August

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on a archery deer hunt for Coues deer on Fort Huachuca this August 21st. Anybody archery hunt Coues deer on Ft Huachuca during August before? Any tips would be welcome.

Set a lawn chair on the back porch of one of the houses in the housing area nearest Huachuca Canyon. Pop open a beer, and wait until just before dusk.

Saw two of the biggest, fastest whitetails Thursday last out at the Golf Links picnic area when I took a wrong turn going to the Sportsman Center.

And what's up with the crossbow prohibition unless you only have one arm in AZ? It's just a bow with a trigger, that's all :(

Crossbows are legal during any firearm season, but they aren't a bow. They are also legal for those with a medical exemption only.

Do you work in fort huachuca cause you cant hunt unless you are a civilian for the military or in the military for that matter!!! I think if you work in the Fort your able to hunt there. Anyways I hunt in the Fort and my father and I have pulled out some great bucks there. Good luck!!!

I went out this weekend on Ft. H and saw a couple bucks, but still kinda new to archery hunting, any helpful hints. I did a spot and stalk, but lost sight of them about 100 yds out in thick brush and never saw them again.

Spot and stalk on a coues deer is extremely difficult. It separates the men from the boys. (I am a boy) Your best bet would be to set up a blind or treestand near a water hole.

Any idea where any watering holes are, i've been to wood cutters pond and havent seen anything, dont really want to "forum hunt" but I am scouting/hunting this week and then taking leave all next week to bag my first archery deer.
