Option b)To hunt an area where you'll only see 3 to 5 deer a day (which is discouraging) but you know the area holds 110 to 120 inch bucks but the area will put you to the test and it may take you several days to find BIG ONE? with minimal competition? peloncillo Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Option B always because bigger is better. If I know a 110 + buck is in the area I don't care about not seeing lots of deer. I only wish I could learn to pass on the 90 to 110 class of deer. If I see one I have not yet been able to talk myself out of sending lead their way. Ernesto C Ernesto, I am not sure that is a fair question on the forum You have hunted Coues for a long time and many of us are at the point that we have taken our share and are willing to wait for MR Big. Most of the members are here to learn how to hunt Coues and would be very happy with (My First Was a 80 ) which is a great buck. My response to your question is I would sit all day for the buck I wanted. But I do not think that is best for most members. Snapshot Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Option B is exactly the type of place that I hunt. There are not many whitetail in my spot, but it does hold a nice buck or two on occasion. Last year I killed a 99" buck 10 minutes into the hunt, as I am not the type to examine a gift horse too closely I will take quality and solitude over quantity any day, a 100" buck in rifle range?, you bet! There is nothing wrong with option "a" If I was going to take a novice hunter or a kid hunting that will be the option I will chose becuase I want him to have a good time and a wonderfull experience..........then after that....he/she can decide if to stick to option "a" or "b" I have hunted option "b" and I will keep doing it Lord willing........you know, one of the ranches I hunt in Mexico is option "b" and usually my favorite unit 36C is option "a" I'll be scouting in Mexico (again Lord willing) a new ranch that is a combination of the two options.....should be fun! billrquimby Report post Posted July 7, 2009 After hunting many "a" and "b" places -- and a lot of places in between -- all I want is the opportunity and the ability to hunt. The size of an animal I might bring home (or not) is unimportant. I've taken my share of so-called "trophies" in 62 years of deer hunting, but I long ago stopped using measuring tapes to judge the quality of a hunting experience. Seeing my name in a record book is an ego trip I don't need, and I also stopped submitting my better heads. Ha--i know, you are talking about Coues deer i am just funnin a little. personally i like the option B for me but for my son in laws i would take option A until they get their hunting hide on. It depends like Mike said whether or not a person has hunted and have been successful in their hunting skills. When the grandson gets old enough we will hunt in areas that have lots of game just so he can see things through out the day and then after he gets a couple deer or whatever under his belt we will move into the secluded areas so he can understand the optimal hunting experience--hunting way back in there with nothing but a bed roll and a tarp for cover and glassing the deep dark canyons that the old boys like to live in (by this time he will have to carry my old butt up and down the hills though!) Coues Sniper Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Option B for me. Many places I hunt are exactly like that. daryl_s Report post Posted July 7, 2009 I will take option A because I have not yet graduated to the higher levels like most of you have. I have killed 2 coues and neither would even break the 80" mark. I have been watching a buck that I believe to be in the 105 range since Sept. 1 of last year. I saw him in late January so I believe he is still there. I would be thrilled to put my tag on that buck. I have seen other hunters in this area more than once.
